#AlbumADay 11: Carly Simon - Anticipation In monochromatic blue, it's Carly Simon! Makes me think of the Heinz ketchup commercial, every time. #CarlySimon #Anticipation #nolongerratingalbums #vinyl #deadformat #itsallgroovy
#AlbumADay 10: Oscar Brand - The Americans A Canadian, who usually speaks poorly about America, not speaking poorly about America. This album really shows its age. Kate Smith is on the record, for crying out loud! She may have really sold a song in her day, but now? Probably unlikely. 2/5 #OscarBrand #TheAmericans #vinyl #deadformat #itsallgroovy
#AlbumADay 9: Don McLean - American Pie This album is beautiful in its solemnity. Tracks like American Pie, Vincent, The Grave, and Babylon all are exquisitely written and performed, and all hang heavy with a depressive, brooding mood. In fact, the only track that doesn't really fit this theme is Everybody Loves Me, Baby, unless Mr. McLean is despondent for his baby to love him. But the tune is very upbeat in comparison to the almost dirge-like procession of the others. Very strange. #DonMcLean #AmericanPie #vinyl #itsallgroovy #deadformat
#AlbumADay 7: Various Artists - American Graffiti A great movie with an even better soundtrack. 3.75/5 #VariousArtists #AmericanGraffiti #vinyl #itsallgroovy
#AlbumADay 7: Various Artists - All That Jazz I have never listened to this album before, and I can't recall say it was all that great. The best track was "On Broadway" closely followed by an intriguing rendition of "Bye Bye Love." 2.25/5 #VariousArtists #AllThatJazz #vinyl #deadformat #itsallgroovy
#AlbumADay 6: ABBA - The Album Catchy, synthesized Europop that took the discos of the 1970s by storm (though I only immediately recognize three songs off the track list on this album -- no pun intended). Some of the songs seem somewhat folksy in... tone doesn't seem to be quite the right word, but it will have to suffice. Examples include (IMO): "Eagle" and "One Man, One Woman." "Move On" would not sound out of place at a carnival. "Hole In Your Soul" is about as close to rock and roll as ABBA gets. And then there is the "mini-musical" at the end. This album is as all-over-the-place as cell phone reception in a high school. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing -- well, The Album, anyway. 3/5 #ABBA #TheAlbum #vinyl #deadformat #itsallgroovy
#AlbumADay 5: Steely Dan - Aja Every track on here is a winner. One of the few albums I award the status of "all killer, no filler." Especial favorites are Deacon Blues, Black Cow, Peg, and Josie. 5/5 #SteelyDan #Aja #vinyl #deadformat #itsallgroovy
