Daryl had to borrow the car from Carol and Ezekiel. He didn’t own a car, just the motorcycle he’d brought the first time he met, and he certainly couldn’t put a pregnant woman on the back of it. He’d suggested that and he was pretty sure Ezekiel had almost broken his wine glass and then practically thrown the keys at him. He was thankful for that now, as he pulled up in front of the address she’d given him.
He’d taken the day off for this and he was almost nauseous with anticipation. He’d made lunch reservations first, then they’d go to the doctor, and then they’d see the baby. Their baby - no her baby, he corrects himself. He’s still not sure that he’s allowed to call it his baby too, they haven’t discussed what this means or if she wants him involved.
She steps out of the house, waving goodbye to some unseen figure behind her and he pushes the colored swirl out of his head and unlocks the doors so she can get in. “I -” His hands move awkwardly, trying to use the sign language he’d been learning over the last couple of weeks. He’d started a class for it, but he still wasn’t sure he was doing it right. “We’re getting lunch first.” He signs, at least, he tries to sign, he thinks it’s what he’s signing. “Is that okay?”
