My old quartet coach told us about a time his friends were playing in an orchestra concert and it was one of those halls where people were sitting behind the back desk of violins basically and someone else in the orchestra thought it would be hilarious to stick a page from Playboy in their part so the guy turned the page, saw the picture, thought 'shit' and had to turn the page back and their desk had to play those 2 pages from memory because the audience people behind them could see their music

I saw your page turning story and it reminded me of when we did Bruch violin concerto at school and it was the first time I ever played viola and basically a couple of hours before the concert I finally got round to sticking my part back together except I didn't realise until the concert that I accidentally stuck it 1,2,4,3 which meant that I not only struggled with the clef but with extra page turns too, which wasn't great since I was already lost

I've probably already told this story, but in terms of harsh orchestra directors, we once had a guest conductor who refused to let the orchestra leave when one of the lights full on caught fire (and there was apparently bits of flaming debris falling off into the orchestra), until another member of staff came in a told us we absolutely had to evacuate - apparently we needed 'all the rehearsal time we could get' and even a fire wasn't going to stand in his way, it was slightly scary
