it hadn’t been love at first sight. he hadn’t immediately fallen head over heels for his best friend’s little sister, it had grown slowly but surely. crept up on him, giving him no chance to stop it, or -- even prepare for it. if he was asked what moment in time made him realise his devotion for skylar reynolds, there were a few significant times that came to mind. though none quite like the present. he’d been hanging out with ben all day, and she’d been sleeping over for whatever reason he hadn’t pried in on. though he suspected it had something to do with her boyfriend, though he certainly didn’t deserve such a title. he’s asleep on the couch, which was far from a rare occurrence. simon was like an old dad in that respect. though, something; whether it be fate or chance has him wake up, only for his gaze to softly find skylar’s gaze. it’s dark, very dark, yet something about her still shines. “are you trying to be sneaky or something?” he calls out, smile gentle -- he really did mean no harm. “’cause i’m afraid i’ve ruined that for you now, sky...”

stephen’s aim had been to lull the little girl in his arms with the song falling from his lips, but as his cheek rests against his fist and his lashes flutter, it’s clear if it’s working on anyone, it’s on him. “...that's the time you must keep on trying, smile, what's the use of crying, you'll find that life is still worthwhile...if you just smile,” he whisper sings, gaze flickering across his youngest daughter’s cute little expression. being a father came far more naturally to him than he could’ve ever anticipated, he loved every last minute of it. “are you still not sleepy, vita mia?” he asks then, fingers brushing against her cheeks and temple lightly...it had worked for him when he was a baby, maybe it’d work for her, too. it takes him a moment to realise emily is stood at the doorway, a tired smile taking over his expression. “i tried not to wake you,” he speaks through hushed tones, biting onto his bottom lip. “...you think she’s worried she’s going to miss something really important?” he questions with a chuckle, rocking the chair they’re both situated within gently. / @itsdeliicate​

it's not midnight here for another five hours, but i wanted to wish one of my most favourite people in the world the very happiest of birthdays. i love you so much and i hope you have a wonderful day and rest of the weekend. and i hope that the happiness continues into 2017.
