The Deal
It didn’t turn out well at first. Who would believe me if I told them supernatural people existed?
“All I’m saying, is that you accidentally sacrificed yourself— which is a common occurrence…” he pauses, as if to have a comedic timing in his words. “… every thousands of years. You’re my third companion.”
Minseo was still in shock. A few days ago, this creature had bypassed every single guard that roamed the house and somehow managed to convince her for a conversation. He stood tall and mimicked how she acted, blending in with his stature just like a human would. He was strikingly beautiful and charming— even after showing himself with black, crow-like wings. She wants to understand only because Hyejung had given a short premonition. The man, who introduced himself as ‘Sagami’, gives an entire history of what, why, and how this all came to be. She stays quiet, unsure of what to say with the ordeal.
“You don’t need to worry about me,” again, with the explanations. “Only worry when you do something bad. I’ll be looking over you like a shadow. You can't out run me either. I will always find you. Death will be the only thing to separate us both.”
“That doesn’t make anything better.” She comments. Calmly looking around as if she was expecting someone to come out and say it was all a prank. “So what like— you just want to make sure I don’t do bad with my… powers?”
“Your ability—“ he corrects. “It’s your strongest natural talent. Self-preservation is very admirable. Death comes for you and yet somehow you survive and come out stronger. I’ve had others with physical strength or one that could control their will to do it all but I think you’re my favorite.”
Sagami had explained his purpose as a former Shinto Kami. When Minseo had hiked the Hira mountains with her injury, her blood caused an accidental bond. In exchange, they give some kind of thank you. In this case, he strengthens a human’s natural ability.
“Going back to what we were speaking of, I’d like for you to help me with a new identity. Reasons being that I cannot simply just be a stranger. Knowing your lifestyle, that might be easy, no?” He asks, roaming around her living room as if he belonged there. “Maybe a cousin? considering your past is unsuitable for us to be siblings. I’m open to anything.”
“How do you know about that?”
“The moment your blood dropped on the grounds of my home, I know the entire history of you.”
Minseo looks on. Everything?
“Fear not, I won’t use it against you… Maybe.” He chuckles. Even his laugh was charming. “It will be easier once I can act as if I belonged here.”
“Suho.” She says. Meek, but it was stern. “A protector, right? We can have a friendly relationship, or something. I’ll make up a story and you can go by that.”
He smiles. Almost. She could only accept what was going on head first. Running away simply meant delaying everything.
“Fitting choice.”
