my sister's a grad student and though she doesn't have a pet she knows people who do and they struggle trying to take care of their pets in top of school. then again, those people adopted puppies, which are super high maintenance
Puppies are definitely a lot of work! That's why I'm not going to take my dog (who lives with my parents), because even though he's fully trained and older, I know I won't be able to devote that much time to him. But I know a grad student who has a few gerbils, hamsters, and rats, and she finds the time to care for and play with them. I think it really depends on the animal, the person, and the program. Rabbits tend to sleep all day, and can be litter-box trained, so they seem like a good fit for me. I also have experience with pet mice. However, I'm going to keep doing my research and ask around because the last thing I want to do is to send an animal I adopt from the shelter back.
*breaks down door* are you watching Hyouka?
YES MA'AM I JUST STARTED EP 6

That is the loveliest sentence ever in the English language. I want it printed on a banner and strung across my bedroom.
