Through her attorney, the Southgate Anderson High School senior requested probation and no jail time. When asked what happened — and with her attorney whispering in her ear — she flatly told Judge James Kandrevas: “I filed a false police report last Thursday.” The judge accepted the plea and referred Gentry to the probation office for a recommendation. Gentry made headlines when she claimed to have been stopped by a fake cop and aired her story on Fox 2. The Southgate Police Department, however, determined early in its investigation that "the story was not matching up with the facts." "Public safety is our main concern and we cannot have or tolerate (hoaxes) and fear being put into our residents minds," a statement from Southgate police read. "The police officers out working the streets of Downriver cannot do their jobs (efficiently and effectively) with this type of behavior." On March 1, Gentry was featured on a Fox 2 segment with her mother, describing the "incident" in detail. She said she was stopped by a black man at Fort Street and Eureka Road, near the border of Southgate and Wyandotte, and asked for her driver’s license.
