“I keep saying you’ll be faster without me. I could-” Takeru glanced about a moment, frustration lacing his tone, “pull myself up into this tree or something and hang out until you got back.” There was no way Hikari was going to go for that, but he just couldn’t seem to get it together. 

This was, of course, assuming the gate hadn’t been ‘relocated’ with the same delicacy they had been when the area had glitched out. Assuming this was even the direction they had come from initially. His eyes swept the path behind them as a bush seemed to decide to become Picasso painting of itself for a moment before popping back.  

A sigh escaped like air from a deflating balloon as he carefully sat himself next to her. This was...a lot. Even for the Digital World.

“You wanna go get some ice cream, Hikari-chan? It’ll be my treat!” Takeru forces a smile, ignoring the concerned look Patamon is giving them. Apparently his partner didn’t like his method of coping with trauma by pretending it didn’t exist.

But surely his best friend would appreciate it?

Jou strolled down the busy street in Odaiba, trying to get some fresh air after a long day of clinical research. He’d been interrupted many times throughout the day and felt like he’d achieved nothing.

A familiar face crossed his line of vision, coming from the opposite direction. “Hikari-kun! Over here!” He waved at her, then realized it must look silly for a man in a white lab coat to be waving at someone excitedly on the sidewalk. Jou did need to ask Hikari something, though. Maybe he really could make this day worthwhile.
