It’s common knowledge in my family that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s son was partially named after my aunt and none of them know it. <<< u HAVE to explain this omg

Yes ok! So, my grandma is SURE of this, but the rest of my family isn’t quite as positive but it’s still fun. 

My aunt is named Sebastian. Yes, it’s an odd name for a girl. Whatever. Her side of the family was very good friends with this guy named Howard Ashman (He came over for dinner some nights. They were good friends). 

At the same time, a movie called The Little Mermaid was in development, co-starring a small crab named Clarence. However, part of the way through development, someone suggests changing the crab’s name to Sebastian. That suggestion was made by Howard. 

Cut to Lin (a MASSIVE Little Mermaid fan) having a son. I’d say there was at least some part of him that named his kid Sebastian as at least a nod to one of his favorite musicals. 

My aunt -> Howard Ashman -> The Little Mermaid -> Lin -> Sebastian Miranda

We can’t be 100% sure that these are the exact events, but I like to think it worked like this.

is it weird to relate to something like moonlight when you're a bisexual indian american teenager? I think ppl assume that poc can't relate to other poc stories in movies etc?? but somehow we can relate to white stories, those are universal!??!? idk an adult was talking about how I couldn't possibly relate to that story but I could?

No, I don’t think it’s weird at all. Of course POC from different cultures can relate to the stories of other POC, especially as a lot of the time our cultures share some similarities. 

Also, don’t let anyone tell you what you, personally, can or can not relate to.
