First Date || Alice/Ivan Para

After consulting everyone who wasn’t Lance or her parents, Alice finally decided on an outfit-- black pants, white blouse, and a black belt. This didn’t feel too casual or too fancy, it was just right. After putting everything on, she did a little pose in the mirror. “You got this, Alice,” she said out loud to herself. “It’s just a date. You look good. Knee still hurts, but we’re toughing it out.” She had tripped on the sidewalk in the morning and was sporting a hearty gash on her right knee and minor scratches on her palms, but she wasn’t going to let that ruin her entire day.

Ivan Elliot Carter is twenty-two years old and a freshman at Rosewood/Computer Repair Technician in Greensville.

Ivan was dealt a bad hand in life from a young age. He was born in Columbus Ohio to a eighteen year old girl and her twenty year old boyfriend who recently moved from Moscow Russia to Ohio. They decided that they weren’t ready to take on the responsibility of a child. His parents arranged for him to be adopted by a newly wed young couple who couldn’t have their own children. Sara and Bobby Lance were Ecstatic to find out that they were finally going to have a child of their own. They decorated his room, bought him new clothes and told all of their friends and families. The day the Lances were supposed to take home baby Ivan, they called and said that they realized they were pregnant and that they didn’t want to take in a baby right now. The workers were devastated for the poor baby but had to agree with what the Lances wanted. Ivan eventually grew up in the foster home on Ohio. He usually kept to himself, only taking to a few people. Ivan didn’t want to be a bother or start any trouble. Any time of the day you could find him in the living room playing with the computer, taking it apart and putting it back together over and over again. One day he met a boy Jamie who was brought to the group home. The boys instantly clicked and became fast friends. Ivan finally found someone and he wasn’t alone anymore. Things also started to look up after Ivan was approached by two husbands looking for a child to call their own. There was an instant liking between the three of them and they announced that they were adopting him that day. After a few weeks and countless meetings with his social worker Ivan finally became a Carter. When he found out that he would no longer be living in Ohio but in Greensville, North Carolina, he was saddened but also happy because it was a chance for him to get out and explore the world. Now, he has his own room, his own clothes and his own toys to play with and not to mention a band new laptop that he was always playing around with. He couldn’t have been happier with Oliver and William Carter. When Ivan was 9 his dads brought home his sisters Dakota and Faith. It took a little while for him to get used to not being the only child again and actually sharing his dads attention but he quickly came to love his new sisters and vowed to do anything and everything he could to make sure they were happy and protected. Starting this year, Ivan will be taking classes at Rosewood to become a Computer Repair technician and he couldn’t be more excited. Looking back on his childhood, Ivan was glad that he wasn’t adopted by the Lances because he would have missed all of this time with his dads and sisters.
