I don’t live anywhere near philly anymore so i I hadn’t been to a game in nearly six years. I got lucky last season cause the flyers were playing in Nashville the night before thanksgiving and I was already planning to visit my dad in Chattanooga so I was able to get tickets.

about halfway to the stadium I learned it was Ivan’s birthday the next day so I made a detour and scrawled out a quick happy birthday sign.

he did a double take when he saw the sign cause most of the signs in Russian are for michkov but when he realized it was for him he smiled so wide. All through warm ups he kept glancing over and pointing it out to his teammates. He came over to thank me at the end of warm ups and offered to take a picture too

…also he seemed a little upset in an interview that his birthday fell on thanksgiving cause he thought he wouldn’t ever be able to celebrate with teammates. Someone had to explain to him the date changes each year so they’d be able to go out and celebrate next year.

he really is just the sweetest person despite everything he’s been through
