St. Petersburg talent Ivan Latyshev drops a killer EP on the ever-dependable Dessous Recordings.
Ivan has been making waves over the past couple of years with his distinctive brand of deep, groove-heavy house music on labels such as What’s in the Box, Street King and Spaghetti Monster - but this To My Youth EP sees the young Russian step up to another level.
The title track shows a deep affiliation for classic house vibes, mixed with some jazzy flourishes and swung grooves. The sense of euphoria is tangible, and the spoken word vocals add a level of house mysticism that will be always welcome on deeper leaning dance-floors.
‘Can’t Go Away’ goes a shade deeper still, bringing layers of delay and reverb to the track that help shape a true slow burner.
'Old Ages’ also highlights Ivan’s love of jazz rhythms and sounds, building from a live drum break into a rolling deep house monster - it’s infectious stuff and suggests Ivan Latyshev is going to be name to watch in the next months and years.
Something interesting is going to happen and I feel it. 10 years ago I have bought a few 12′’ records by Dessous but I didn’t know that it was Steve Bug’s label. So I learn very simple things every day. I learn about life, about friendship and that life always prepares something unexpected. My conclusion is that sometimes its better not to push things.
Ivan Latyshev - Afrospirit EP Luvbug Records
Cat: LBR039 Artist: Ivan Latyshev Title: Afrospirit EP Full Release Date 14th September, 2015 Luvbug Recordings once again welcomes St. Petersburg talent Ivan Latyshev, returning from his ubiquitous 'Save Me Music' ep that dropped a bomb making deep house waves all over the place. Not one to rest of his creative laurels, Ivan has since been fine tuning his artistic compass even further, this time he is setting out to pursue the path of the 'Afrospirit'. Transcending his production magic to us with 4 stunning new productions that all sit together to tell a story and impart his own respect to Afro culture in the world and its colorful influences that have left impressions on him as a young music artist growing up. Ivan's Afrospirit collection shares a modern poetic flow that quickly takes a hold from the rhodes of the dusty 'Om Jazz' opener, and moves on to exude a world of haunting synth melodies and deepness on the lead title cut 'Afrospirit' as well as Hold On'. All are built skillfully to a pervading set of interesting deep house rhythms and arrangements while 'Black Nation' strikes a poignoint note to close, leaving us with a lasting layer of raw emotion and mood to close out the chapter. We're excited to hear your feedback and we do send our many thanks for your support.
