IVONOVA, KOSH AND SHERIDAN
Quarantine Photodump, day 4. Mostly Babylon 5 with a couple crossover pics
Don’t fuck with a big sister. Especially if she’s a surgeon, and knows how to make a body disappear. Dagny. Dagny are you fucking listening? Of course you aren’t. Ivonova belongs to @cat-bat, who has been kind enough to keep her from killing Dagny. So far.
Unpopular Opinions
I don't think Claudia Christian is a good actress, and it ruined the character of Ivanova for me. I don't even think I can articulate why I don't like her, it just always seemed to be a pacing thing with her delivery of the lines. Like a lot of the lines seemed like after thoughts, or forced, and her voice was really monotone. I don't really get the whole IVANOVA IS GOD thing. She was a good officer, I liked the way she got things done, but that was it.
I also felt like it was a lot of "tell, not show," with her characteristics. She's Russian...(because she tells us she is). She's Jewish...(it only shows up in one episode). And so on.
So yeah, probably one of the most unpopular opinions there is. (Well, and also I hate the G'Kar/Londo ship.)
Because Christmas isn't complete without Minbari starship shrapnel
Sheridan and Ivonova, Earth Force BFFs
Actually just to continue this whole, Denial of the Talia/Ivonova ship.
I want to first throw my own two cents into the ring. I'm pretty sure 'Word of God' says that it's pretty much a given, that if it has a pulse and the corresponding parts, then people have no qualms with letting people sleep with it. First off, G'Kar has a fetish for Human women, secondly, in Crusade, we see a clip (thankfully breifly) of inter-species porn, that Max has brought with him, and thirdly.
ALIENS EXIST.
This is something we should be thinking about here, because Humanity has been part of the overall galactic community for over a hundred years. So to be honest, if people are going to be sleeping with Aliens, is anyone really going to be worried about gay, lesbian or transgendered people, when there's Aliens sleeping with everyone?
Really?
These people believe that it's 'Unnatural' for same sex coupling, how much more 'Unnatural' is it for a Human to marry a Narn, or a Drazi?
One thing I've noticed about the idea of racism in the B5 universe. Is that the idea of ethnicity became less of a priority to hate groups, as scientific proof of telepathy made the existence of Telepaths known. And that the idea of ethnicity became even less of a priority to hate groups, when Humanity made first contact with the Centauri. 'Yeah, he's black, but at least he can't read my thoughts.' 'Yeah, he's asian, but at least he doesn't have fangs and tentacles.'
I can't help but feel like these same kinds of people, have the same mindset when weighing homosexuality with trans-species.
So whether you're comfortable with it or not, whether you want to admit it to yourself or not. Talia and Ivonova had a relationship. Had a very cautious and tentative relationship, but a very trusting one, which a) fits with their characters, their histories and where they are emotionally at that point, perfectly. b) wouldn't be a problem in the B5 universe, because of all the other sexual shenanigans in the galaxy. And lastly, shouldn't matter to people NOW.
Oh, and as for the idea that Marcus and Ivonova were destined to be together. Whilst I'm a giant sap and my gut says the same thing. Look at their scenes together. Genuinely look.
Marcus is the one who's pining for Ivonova. Ivonova's burned from past relationships (male ones in particular) and clearly doesn't pick up on it, sees Marcus as another soldier, so her training to not fraternise within ranks keeps her from picking up on it or acting on it either, and she only really starts to notice towards the end of Season 4.
She might of developed feelings down the line, but her heartache isn't from her loving Marcus, it's that Marcus sacrificed himself for her. A large part of it is guilt, however unfounded that she was responsible for his death.
