i’m curious ✨ — are there specific events or relationships that shaped sue’s outlook, or is her hatred more ideological / positional? does sue’s dislike of people come from particular betrayals or experiences, or is it something she was raised into culturally?

I think being hated by the kingdom she was born into, for something that was completely out of her control, & not actually her fault, is enough of a reason for her to form this deep hatred for others. Especially when she tried nothing else but to be kind & loving to the people of that same kingdom, despite their hate of her!

But as if more justification was needed, she has been betrayed before by people she looked up too. If you can believe, a young Sue was 'friends' with a daughter of a noblewoman, who often use the little princess's affection(& deep need for friendship) to precure gifts & items that she wanted, as well as royal favors for her family. This was a 'secret' friendship they had, as of course, being a friend or ally of the princess was the biggest social stain one could have.

This (very one sided)friendship ended the day of Sue's 16th birthday, as the other girl refused to interact with Sue directly, & when pressed, finally revealed that she never liked Sue & was just using her for what she was good for: money & favors. This was the very thing that lead to the wine glass incident on her birthday.

There have also been some actual things that have happened in rps that have hardened this view of hers(ex: how often people love to misunderstand her).

People are selfish, & if they are not selfish, they are stupid, & stupidity is a rapid disease that spreads faster then the black plague. They are also lazy, & want things handed to them, rather then working for it, be that a material thing, a position, or personal growth. Dealing with people is the most exhausting thing for Sue, & with so many bad experiences that continue to be validated, it's no wonder why she just hates people as a whole.

Ann’s earlier pacifism being described as “pure” really caught my attention — could you talk more about how she views that part of herself now, and where that judgment comes from? I’m curious how much of that feeling is internal vs shaped by her environment 💭

I use the word 'pure' to describe Ann's pacifism as in it was involving or containing nothing else but the subject, not so much as to call it untainted or unadulterated. However, that line of meaning can also be implied, as this was her beliefs from when she was a child, & children are usually pure, free from the realities of the world & the harshness of it. And Ann as a child was, what one would call, a pure, soft-hearted maiden.

But, in speaking on how Ann views her younger self, it is not as if she hates that version of herself per-say, she was young, a child, a teenager, but she will also not deny that such a line of thinking was foolish. She was a silly child, but being that silly child allowed for others to take advantage of her, & allowed others to hurt her sister & paint Suzanne as this murderous villainess.

Ann, as the older sister, should have protected Sue, but she did not have the ability in her to speak harshly, throw a punch, nor even get someone else to do it for her. She hoped that speaking kindly will get others to come around on their own, but that is obviously not what happened. It is this guilt that fuels her thoughts towards her younger self. If she had been a little harsher, or implemented punishments, then maybe, Sue would not be as she is today, maybe she would be happier. Ann feels she only has herself, & her former weakness to blame.

hello again ! 🌸 i really loved the way you wrote about tristan’s bond with his mama. it added such tenderness to his younger years. the detail about her being his moral compass was so poignant 💖

so do you imagine-with him spending so much time outside of the castle, riding away-those moments as him unconsciously running from what he couldn’t yet name, or was it more of a conscious pulling away after his mother’s death, when he began to see those contrasts with alton more clearly?

i love how much tension you’ve layered into his coming of age arc, and i can’t wait to see how you continue piecing it together ! 💕

Hello again @ivoryfall , thank you so much for the follow up!!! It's such a new experience to have interest like this for one of my oc's , so forgive me if I take a moment to squee about this because omg thank you for that. His story is something I try really hard to make interesting , so I'm taking this as a win in that department as a writing challenge. It's important to not when it comes to Tristan , that he is as much of a mamma's boy as they come. That woman was and is the best woman he'll ever know. She was the one who had arranged for the marriage of his wife which was an attempt at peace with her family. It nearly worked too , so when I say that he hopes to be as good a ruler as his mother , that's what I'm talking about.

His constant running from home after his mother died I think is so much more than just one thing. She was what made his home a bright place not his father because he'd never known a nurturing hand from him. So a place that was once warm , now feels cold. He's running from a lot of things here , both in the physical and in the figurative way. He's running from the cold feeling that he gets at home , he's running from the responsibility that he knows is coming , thanks to the reminder of the passage of time. But he's also running from what he's afraid to admit. (that being the cruelness that his father bestows on the kingdom) Someone has to do something , and he knows deep deep down that someone has to be him. But there's a feeling of being lost there too I think. His mother's death while before the war is really where the story of growing up starts.

But he's not just running from something but to something also. I don't recall if I've added it to his carrd yet or not , but Tristan's mother was always a very accomplished equestrian. One of the best in the Kingdom as a matter of fact. She had Tristan in a saddle before he could walk and that was something he carried on with his daughter. So sure , he's absolutely running from a lot of things in both the figurative and physical ways. But he's also running to the comfort of being a free spirit like his mother. He's spending time in nature because that's where he feels closest to her. He's defying his responsibilities when he and his wife have a child whenever he can , because that's where he feels connected to something that made him feel safe. So what we really have here is nothing more than a scared boy , running from the scary thing into the safe arms of his mom.
