You want to hear a real super hero story? Sandra Strother raised 3 boys on the lower east side on her own. By those stats (in which she always reminds me.) 1 of us should have ended up in prison. 1/3 black men are in prison. My youngest brother was born with autism and is gay which was not an easy thing to deal with but nowhere near as daunting as raising me. I was suspended from school over 15 times. I was always in violent altercations in school which of meant my mom had to take off time from work and lose money to deal with whatever bullshit I was doing. I was also very sick as a child. She stood up with me every night I was in the hospital pounding on my back to break up all the mucus built up in my lungs when I had viral pneumonia. After raising us, my mom went back to school and got a degree in criminal justice. ( We love law and history in our household.) Now, just like her mother, the late great Eliza Thomas she contributes to the neighborhood by making sure that over 600 people on the lower east side have a safe, clean and affordable place to live. Thank you for everything you have sacrificed for us. You are by far the smartest woman I have ever met I cant wait to see what you accomplish next. Enjoy the gift I got you. I love you. Happy 29th birthday!🖤 #strotherpt #lowereastside #feminist #iwasraisedbywolves #loba #bigbossdog https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzn6yCkBbIy/?igshid=124zxh1ikjzq3
