19. Think of the last film you watched. Who was your favorite character in it?

For many years my wife and her brother and I had this tradition where we would watch all three Lord of the Rings extended edition DVDs over Christmas through New Year’s. We hadn’t done it basically since my son was born, and the two of us decided to sort of revive the tradition this year and watched the last two movies (sadly only regular edition because that’s what’s on HBO now 😒) over the past few weeks! It was great. A long-winded way of saying that the last movie I watched was Return of the King. And I think my favorite has to be Gandalf? He’s the most badass, smart, not-here-for-your-shit character, and Ian McKellen is incredible always.

21. What is something you are skeptical about?

For funsies, I shall do an all (recent)-Emmerdale edition answer:

That Debbie was ever attracted to Al in the first place 🥴

That Mackenzie is an actual human being and not a demon in a human skin suit

That I’ve somehow been tricked into liking Nate after what he did to Cain and Moira

That Chas was totally chill about Charity moving back in

That Kim is into Will 🥴

That the vets are still in business

25. With films in languages you do not speak, do you prefer a dub or a subtitle?

Definitely subtitles. I’m honestly not sure the last time I saw something dubbed.

28. What/which music are you currently listening to?

Earlier in the week there was a Garbage song on a 90s workout playlist I used, and it made me go back and listen to Garbage’s greatest hits all week. Their music really holds up! “I Think I’m Paranoid,” “Push It,” “Only Happy When it Rains,” “#1 Crush” — all still incredible bangers. For the children reading this, yes, I’m kind of old. 😝

49. If you chose to get a tattoo what would it be and where would you want it?

I really like the idea of getting a tattoo, but there’s nothing that has grabbed me enough to imagine getting for myself yet! I go through phases of thinking about it a lot, and still nothing. But I think it would be most likely to be words that meant something to me--a quote from a book or poem, a phrase, song lyrics, etc. A friend of mine has “DON’T PANIC” (in all caps like that) on the inside of his wrist, and I love it. I thought it was just a random-but-intense, constant reminder, but it’s actually related to A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It would need to be something that meant a lot to me.

3. Name a subject/topic you know a lot about.

I know lots of weird information that pertains to my job! In my personal life, I’ve been doing a lot of reading about moonflowers as I’m trying to grow some this year. My first two seeds spent the last few days in warm water to encourage germination, and now they’re snug in some soil with a UV light and classical music playing.  

12. Do you always make eye contact with people when you’re speaking to them?

I try to! I’m pretty good for that when I’m talking to someone I know well and am comfortable with. I find when I’m talking to lots of people throughout my day at work without a break in between, I stop being able to look at people’s faces. I hide it by sparking conversation with kids most of the time.

19. Think of the last film you watched. Who was your favourite character in it?

Last thing I watched was The Haunting of Hill House (again), so Theodora, of course. Last actual movie I watched was Happiest Season... so Dan Levy’s character.  

21. What is something you are skeptical about?

My boss gave me a lecture today about how I need to be using retinol and serum and following a strict, elaborate regime of caring for my skin, because by the time I get to her age it’ll (apparently) be too late. I’m intrigued, as I was looking for guidance regarding skin care in your 20s... but I think she’s ultimately just panicking hard about nearing 40 with a lot of laugh lines she wasn’t expecting to have.  

25. With films in languages you do not speak, do you prefer a dub or a subtitle?  

Subtitle, for sure! I read lips, so it’s annoying to be watching someone’s mouth and not have the words match up. Plus, it’s fun to pick up phrases here and there of a language you’ve maybe never immersed yourself in before. I use subtitles for English shows, too.  

39. What’s your favourite lyric from your favourite song right now?

I don’t have a favourite song right now, because I’m in the middle of a re-listen of my entire music library on my phone; I’m listening to everything in alphabetical order with no skips or repeats and not letting myself buy any new music until I’m done. I’m currently on ‘I’, which is about 980/2831 songs.  

And when I’m not doing that, I’m playing classical music for my plants... Pachelbel slaps.  

50. When was the last time you stayed up past midnight and what were you up to?

Well, I’ve been up past midnight a lot the last month or so, as my insomnia kicked into high gear after the sudden death of an old classmate. Usually, I try to write/journal, read, or watch something. My favourite show at night is Mock the Week, as it’s the only thing that gets me to relax enough to fall asleep.

18. Name an episode from a show that you will always remember?

for trauma reasons - bombshells (house 7.15 ) because i was a wee optimistic 15 year old and read all the signs wrong in regards to that episode and naively thought they were gonna get ENGAGED and then they broke up and i missed school the next day and cried

for non-traumatic reasons - discovery weekend (veep 7.02) because my friends and i would rabbit (rip rabbit) and watch the season 7 episodes together and when that tom and selina scene in the kitchen happened i quite literally blacked out afterwards and on facetime after my friends were talking about the dan/amy scene at the lake and i was like ‘you guys im literally not kidding when i say i don’t know what you’re talking about because i blacked out’ lmaoooo

#would this not be the point where you call her mum - I know it wouldn't have fit tonally in the episode to have that on screen, but I would've KILLED to have heard this call. Has Charity ever talked to Vanessa's mom? Did she introduce herself as Vanessa's fiancée or just Charity? Did shE MAKE BOB CALL HER?

I would have DIED if we got that. Surely, surely her mum needs to show up for this cancer storyline?!

I really want to write a crack fic where Bob has to call her mum now 😂
