Medusa did nothing wrong! That pervy prick Poseidon had the actual balls to rape her in Athena’s Temple. But instead of punishing him for it, Medusa gets victim blamed and cursed for it.
Although, I more prescribe to the interpretation that Athena wasn’t really punishing Medusa so much as she was giving her a means to protect herself. Because Athena really had no way to punish Poseidon and the normal punishment for “defiling” a temple of the Gods was death. But instead of killing Medusa, Athena found a clever, sneaky way to discreetly help her loyal follower out. She was stripped of her beauty (something men would definitely see as punishment) and given a way to ward off/punish men who would seek to abuse her in the future. So in a sense, Athena blessed Medusa with the power to protect herself, and motherfucking MEN beheaded her for it. But regardless, whether you read the myth as something along these lines or as more consistent with the traditional interpretation, my point still stands…
