I Would Do Anything For Love || Pate
Penn had never purposefully skipped a day of school in his life, and at first had been quite irritated that Valentine's Day had chosen to fall on a weekday, but once he'd sat down and thought about it the last thing he wanted was to spend a day at school surrounded by flowers and balloons without Kate by his side. After he'd brainstormed with Calvin and scoured the depths of the internet, Penn had come up with two tickets for Kate's favourite band, Rascal Flatts, that coincidentally were playing in the city on the 14th. It was a sign, simple as that. From there, Penn asked his parents to help him find a reasonable hotel to spend the night at - the last thing he wanted was for Kate to catch him researching at school - and they'd gone ahead and booked a room far more luxurious than he'd asked for. Kate didn't expect that kind of thing from him though, so it was going to be the perfect surprise. A few calls to the hotel later, and he'd organised for the room to be set up complete with rose petals on the bed and scented candles for when they returned from the concert. All he had to do was keep his mouth shut and go about business as usual and she wouldn't suspect a thing.

"I've never been much of a country fan myself, but I don't think I've ever had so much fun at a concert in my life," Penn beamed, his arm loosely draped around Kate's shoulders as they walked back to the car. "I don't think the family beside us appreciated the half time make out show though..." They slowed up as they came to Penn's dad's car, and he opened the door for her before climbing in the driver's side himself. While he waited for the engine to warm up, Penn smirked over at Kate, his mind wandering to different scenarios of how she might act once they were at the hotel. "The hotel's not much, but it's decent," he lied, shrugging, "It'll be good practice for when we're living in a shoebox in New York."
Once they pulled up to the hotel, all gleaming lights and polished windows, Penn was surprised to find a valet opening his door for him. His dad had said it was a fancy establishment, but fancy to their family was a place with room service and a mint on the pillow. This was an entirely different level. The doorman took their bags while the woman at the service desk checked them in. He kissed Kate quickly as they entered the elevator, his hand squeezing hers to try and calm his own nerves, "Okay, so when I said 'not much' I really meant 'the best hotel in town'." As he opened the door to their room, Penn pulled her quickly inside, his arms around her waist from behind as he let her look around, "Surprise?"
