So I can't believe I'm actually coming here for advice, but still. I know I also don't post often/if at all, but I need more opinions on this then I can get from the people around me. Very soon I will have to make a very "adult" decision for where I will be working this summer and I don't know what to do.
My first opinion is to go to the place I love with all my heart and work the job I've wanted since I was 9 years old. There is a decent chance this might be my last/only chance to go and do this specific job. Hopefully I will someday get the chance to go back to the company and work a different position, but this year I have been offered what is effectively my all time dream job. This job will on the surface, without sitting down and doing a lot of math, pay less overall when you compare the amount of time worked.
My other option is to go back to the job I was at last summer. It was a nice job, and I had some fun, but it wasn't what I wanted to do. I worked with (mostly) amazing people and would work with them again in a heartbeat. This is a job I could come back to for years, basically as long as the company is open I could apply for a job there and probably be hired. This job will on the surface, without sitting down and doing a lot of math, pay more overall when you compare the time worked.
Now, both jobs have different expenses and such to deal with. The first option is farther from home and starts later, so i would be working less and have to deal with travel expenses. The second option is closer to home which means I could work longer and I wouldn't have to deal with nearly the amount of travel expenses. Job one includes food and board and has a set monthly paycheck. Job two doesn't include food and board, but is a bi-weekly paycheck with the option of overtime.
The reason I'm having such a hard time figuring out where to go is partly because my financial situation is about to upended come next school year.
This isn't me asking for money.
Come next fall I will student teaching for a semester and my program prohibits me from working a part time job while doing so. I will be responsible for all of my tuition (my current scholarship was only for 4 years) and a car payment at the least. (To say this pandemic hit my family very hard is an understatement. My mom worked maybe 7 weeks since this time last year). Hopefully I will not have to pay rent somewhere, but I won't know that until mid-August. But needless to say, I'm going to need to put money away.
So to make a way too long post short, I need opinions. Do I follow my heart and go to the job I've wanted longer then anything else, work harder but probably earn less money or do I go to the job where I'll still be decently happy, work longer and possibly earn more money but isn't where I want to be?
If you have an opinion or advice you can respond to this post or you can message me in my inbox. I also don't mind if you reblog it, as it could be helpful to get a lot of viewpoints.
