Been a long time
I realized I haven't actually posted anything in a long time, as I've been mainly concerned with my pregnancy and subsequent birth of my daughter. She's two weeks and two days old now and for a while now I've been even more invested in feminism and how I will raise her.
I want my daughter to be a feminist. I want her to grow up with an open mind; to be strong, independent, an activist, to care about all people and want everyone to stand on equal ground. I've been using pinterest to save things I want to teach her as she grows. But more than anything, I want to make the world a better place for her to grow up. As I write a book for her (at the suggestion of my mother) I realize that the worlds in books will almost always seem better than the world she lives in, especially with the president that now sits in office.
I want to teach her to speak her mind, give respect to all people (unless they show they truly do not deserve it), to protect the people who cannot protect themselves, to ignore gender roles but respect gender identity, and so many more things. I can only hope that others teach their children the same way. I believe that if we raise the next generation to be better people than us, then the world will be a better place for it. I can only hope one day, my darling child will have a fulfilling life in all aspects of anything she wishes to pursue.
I know I can start by trying to be a better person myself, because I know that I have my faults, and we can all evolve beyond what we already are.
I know I can start, by teaching as well as showing her, that even in her formative years, if she feels more like a boy, or non-gendered, that it's okay, and I will love her no matter what; no matter her sexuality, gender identity, or anything else, as long as she is a good person (probably even if she isn't, though I will be disappointed) I will love her.
I will not teach her hate, or to bully those weaker than her. I will teach her love, compassion, acceptance, and kindness. I can only hope that in the future, she takes those lessons and passes them on to others. So I want to start a hashtag to begin, for myself, my daughter, and anyone else, whether they have a child of their own or not, because you don't have to be a parent to teach a child something good.
