<Successful Completion of the Capacity Building of Integrated Water Resources Management and Sustainable Development - 5th>

From May 8th to May 14th, 2024, K-water Academy hosted the Capacity Building Program on Integrated Water Resources Management and Sustainable Development. For this program, we welcome 12 delegates from six major water management agencies in the Philippines, including National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), National Water Resources Board (NWRB), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), and Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Water Resources Management Office (DENR-WRMO).

As a part of the project management consulting (PMC) for "Capacity Building of Integrated Water Resources Management and Sustainable Development," this Capacity Building program was funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). This PMC service was undertaken by Yooshin Engineering and Dongbu Engineering, collectively known as the Yooshin Engineering Consortium. K-water Academy was entrusted with invitational training operations in Korea for key government personnel in the Philippines by the Consortium.

This program was specially designed to enhance the integrated water management capabilities of the Philippine water management sector by including lectures and study visits to enhance participants' understanding of Water Resources Policy, Water Governance Reform, Water Quality & Water Resources Management, and Integrated Water Resources Management.

Furthermore, participants were able to experience authentic Korean culture through the Cultural Excursion program in Seoul. It is hoped that the participants can apply the knowledge and experience gained throughout the program once they return to their duties in the Philippines.

Through our strengthened partnership and friendship, K-water will continue to work closely with the government of the Philippines for successful implementation of integrated water resources management and sustainable development in the Philippines.

K water IWRM Capacity-building for PH Water Sector 2024

I was initially listed for K water Academy’s eighteen-day Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Working-level Training Course, but my boss decided that I join K water Academy’s seven-day IWRM High-level Training for Decision Makers/ Managers…

To be honest, I was a bit disappointed that I’ll be in [South] Korea for only seven (7) days, instead of eighteen (18) days. I also felt I was going to be OP (out-of-place) because people who attended this course are managers or directors who are much older than...And this it turned out  that I was the only one who is younger than forty (40) years old in this training batch!

But my initial assumption was wrong. This was great learning experience for me! Not only did I learn a lot from the Koreans, but I also learned a lot from my fellow delegates who most have been working in the government before I was even born… And surprisingly they’re all super fun to be with. I genuinely enjoyed their company.

I’m so thank full to God for this experience.

Face-to-face With IWRM

Last year, I was able to attend the Tailor Made Training on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, which was sponsored by the Dutch Government... but it was only an online course.

Fortunately, this year, I had the opportunity to attend another IWRM training. This time it was sponsored by the Korean Government and this time, it was a face-to-face training... Thank God! Haha!

The National Groundwater Information Center Of The Republic Of Korea

K water does not use groundwater sources, but they have a National Groundwater Information Center… a place where the monitor the water levels of all the wells around the country!

My colleague and I were joking that our country’s groundwater data monitoring is better than Korea’s… because we used to be administrators of the Philippine Ground Water Data Bank. Hahaha! But seriously, we are so jealous of their groundwater data bank.

The Calm Of Daejeon

K water took us to the City of Daejeon because their headquarters is there... and I fell in love with Daejeon. This the calmest cities I've visited. It has a lot of high rise structure, but it was crowd-less and and very quiet. And stuff there are also cheaper than stuff in Seoul.

IWRM Classmates

Last year I attended a short course on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at IHE-Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands (but only online) and these two (2) were my classmates. This year we were classmates again at an IWRM Training in South Korea…

The Philippines' National Government Water Sector is really just a small circle. It's just the same people attending international trainings on water. Haha.

IHE Delft Certified

This was from the graduation/certificate awarding of the Tailor Made Training on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education's e-Campus from 28 February 2023 - 30 March 2023.

I don’t usually rave about short course trainings, let alone an online course... But training with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education (the largest international graduate water education in the world) is a low-key dream come true for me. I really never believed that I was going to experience this… Thank you Taxpayers and the government of the Netherlands for this. Hopefully, we get to this face-to-face in the Netherlands someday. Haha.
