Do you know that feeling...that feeling of being so in love with someone, in the middle of so much chaos..that you feel like you're almost drowning? Like you're all alone in the middle of a sea made of tears, doubts, negative comments...loneliness. You're floating just above the surface. Barely above the surface, in an ocean you helped create. Only your eyes, nose, and mouth are above the water. The rest of you is swaying slowly in the darkening abyss of the ocean. You are constantly struggling. Constantly kicking, as hard as you can, to keep what's left above the surface afloat. But you're getting tired...and day by day it gets harder to keep kicking, and to keep yourself from drowning. Not because you want to give up, but because you have this constant weight of chains tied to your ankles, holding giant blocks of cement. And those blocks of cement are getting heavier and heavier. Quietly threatening to pull you under and take you down into the pit of darkness and loneliness that is your ocean. Every fiber of your being wants to keep kicking. Keep fighting. Because, you will be saved....but at the same time, every fiber of your being is begging you to let go. To stop kicking, and let yourself drown. You just want to let all your tears out and cry until you can't cry anymore and you finish drowning yourself. But just as you're about to do just that, you hear this voice...barely above a whisper, and it says "keep kicking! You have to because as soon as you stop, and as soon as you let this water consume you, and as soon as you let your face go under the surface..they will be there. The one you've been fighting for, swimming for, staying above the water for, will be at the surface. In the boat for you two. Holding out their hand to catch yours and pull you out of the never ending ocean. And you will be under the water, looking up at them. Stretching out your hand to take theirs...but you'll be just out of reach. And you'll try to start kicking again, but the blocks and chains are too heavy now. The blocks that your savior unknowingly carved, and tied to your ankles, will drag you down until the darkness of your self-made sea blankets you. You will be able to do nothing but look up to the surface and watch them shrink as you descend." That voice telling you this, is the only thing keeping you from letting go. It is the hope that keeps you kicking. Because you know they love you too and they will save you. They told you. " Everything will be okay" they said. They promised they would never leave. And with that promise, they also promised to be the one to save you from drowning. So you promise to keep swimming......You kick as hard as you can, and you use one arm to help. The opposite arm is being caressed by the doubt. You are doing everything you can to stay afloat for THEM. You know they are sailing to your rescue.....you can feel it! But at the same time, you can feel the darkness closing in...slowly crawling up. And you don't know who, or what will get to you first. All you can do is swim. Do you know that feeling?....Because I do.
