After realizing it wasn’t a joke, Danny cried when Luke told him they were naming the baby after him. 

Danny still feels odd about being Dani’s godfather-- if something happened to Luke and Jess, she’d live with him and that’s terrifying and he isn’t even doing any actual parenting at this point. 

Danny read all the baby books too after Jess laid into him for giving Dani bananas when she’d already had one new thing that week when she was first getting into solid food.  Jess pointed out, in her none too gentle Jess way, that she could have been allergic and Danny could have killed her and he didn’t get over it for like six months.

“Yeah, they’re always like this.” He nods his head at the two SHIELD agents droning on and on about mission schematics he could care less about. These people act like they’re seven. It’s annoying and downright insulting. “If you pretend to fall asleep they get really mad.” James would leave out the part about where he actually had fallen asleep during a debrief before.

“Did he now?” Jessica tried to keep the annoyance out of her voice and off her face, though she wasn’t sure she succeeded. Luke getting back into this superhero shit with Danny terrified her to her core. It was dangerous, and they had a family to take care of now. A beautiful daughter who didn’t need to see Jess falter.

Dropping her bag and her keys near the door, Jessica made her way all the way into the apartment and crouched down next to her daughter. “I love it, baby.” Gently, she smoothed her hand over the top of Dani’s head before kissing her cheek. “Maybe we should show it to Melvin and see if he gets inspired to update Uncle Matt’s suit.”

“So the couch is taken...” Jessica probably didn’t need to say that part, given the entire little corner that the couch occupied was covered in Hope’s stuff. Running shoes and college textbooks and brightly colored clothes, things that stuck out like a sore thumb in the apartment. Honestly, Jess wasn’t sure where she was going to fit Dani in, but she’d make it work somehow. She kicked one shoe to the side before turning back to Dani.

“You can have the bedroom tonight. And we’ll work this rest of this shit out in the morning.” She didn’t know how exactly, yet. But she knew she wasn’t going to leave Dani or Hope to their own devices.

“Jesus. So he’s always going to be a dork?” Jessica rolled her eyes, but couldn’t help the small smile that played on her lips. There was something genuinely comforting to know that he’d still be like that. “I mean, I’m not that soft or anything. But like... I know I’m not her. But if you need me or what the hell ever, I’m here.”
