The izmir Clock Tower is located in izmir's famous Konak Square, standing between the mosque and the sea. It has become the symbol of the city. Built in 1901 on the orders of the Grand vizier, Küçük Sait Pasha, it was presented as a gift to Abdülhamit ll on the 25th anniversary of his accession. The clock in the tower was a gift sent by the German kaiser, Wilhem ll. During this period the tower was known as the Hamidiye Tower.
