Taking Meghan - Izzy Sweet
This weekend, I went on a romance novel binge! A smutty spree! A kissin’ book bender! And I don’t regret a thing.
Bossed by the Single Dad by Mia Madison
First of all, almost no one was bossed. There was a boss, and yes, he was a single dad, but he was actually quite nice. I was looking for bossy and I got emotionally stable and sympathetic. Also, the plus-sized heroine works out and loses weight, which makes her more beautiful and able to wear pretty dresses. And there was barely any sex, until the very end. So yeah. 2 stars.
Stealing Amy: A Dark Romance by Izzy Sweet and Sean Moriarty
This one deserves some trigger warnings. It is pretty violent and kinda gruesome. The male lead is a real anti-hero type. Some of the sex scenes border on non-consensual. I found the heroine a little too wimpy for my tastes. 3 stars.
Slamming Demon by Izzy Sweet and Sean Moriarty
Second chance romance between an MMA fighter and his high school sweetheart. There is a long, loooong, long flashback sequence, so I kinda ended up feeling like I was reading really explicit YA. 3 stars.
Cowboys & Virgins by Alexa Riley
Pretty much exactly what it says on the box. A set of novellas about cowboys and virgins. Sometimes the virgins are the cowboys! Everyone is really good a sex even the very first time, so believability is out the window. Lot’s of insta-love. 3 stars.
Wanting My Stepsister by Alexa Riley
Most of the book is step-sibling angst– they want each other, but they can’t, but man do they really want to, but they shouldn’t, but it’s true love, but it’s so wrong… Which I found fairly believable in a book about step siblings falling in love. 3 stars.
Shielding Lily by Alexa Riley
How do you feel about 18 yr old virgins falling in insta-love at first sight and having perfect, mind-bendingly hot sex the very first time they do it? Your answer will determine how much you like this book. I found it relaxing and soothing– I knew exactly what was going to happen, when it happened, and why. It didn’t push or challenge me, but instead transported me away to fairly decent land of make-believe and fantasy. 3 stars.
Ok so this book has one of THE most gruesome torture scenes I've ever read. I've gone through my fair share of dark romances with gangs, mafia, bratva, of all sorts. I've read stalker and obsession romances. And YET this one surprised me.
I didnt think I'd need to go back and read the entire series straight through, but since they're interconnected standalones, it may have been helpful to do so to really understand the structure of this group because after reading just this book? I'm still a little confused.
