A thing I've noticed that fans seem to get off slightly is Jim Gordon. Specifically his intro/connection to Bruce though I understand the likely causes.

In adaptations, specifically live action like the movies and TV Show Gotham which are generally more accessible than long complicated at times comic runs for most people, Jim Gordon is connected to Bruce and that he was their the night the Waynes were murdered/in Bruce's youth which is not a traditional element of his story.

When in the very famous comic story that shows his past and arrival, he is tied to Bruce by both arriving to Gotham at the same time (or in Bruce's case returning). Jim moved there in Year One and became invested in Gotham. He and Bruce met as adults.

And, yes, making him there in those specific worlds works but if your are being comic Canon or mostly comic Canon OR discussing events in the comics especially during certain timelines it throws me. And maybe they changed this in New 52 or Rebirth. I haven't read enough to say but this is usually connected to major events that are distinctly not N52 or Rebirth.

It's a smaller thing since the Gordons aren't often the main characters but it is part of a trend of things that pile up. Like Steph being from Crime Alley too (she's a suburbs girl!), Tim's parents being alive well into his Robinhood, an incorrect Teen Titans lineup for Dick, getting the story of Jason's return wrong, etc. (all the Batfamily suffer from this), all take me out for a minute.

And I am not judging people for not knowing everything or repeating what they see over and over in other fanfics. That can be a common way of learning lore events while working through source media. And I've been guilty of assuming events/info a lot of people are repeating a certain way is accurate (see Jay&Tim meeting in Titans Tower).

This isn't even really a complaint?

It's just...if you are going to make meta or argue about a certain character's position or talk about/analyze them or try and make a joke, can you at least be accurate? Especially if you allegedly care about them or are annoyed with the Character. Because it sounds like you like/dislike someone you made up, despite being very passionate that this is accurate to the Character.

I feel like a lot of weirdness with Alfred's relationship is also about the fact he didn't originally raise Bruce. Even into the 80s it was Leslie who got custody of him. And it's still pretty recent (relative to Batman) that he did the raising. Though here we do see Alfred being around.

I'd need to do a little research to find when the switch to Alfred raising him versus Leslie occurred. But also it's implied during some Bruce was just shipped off to schools rather than having a direct everyday adult in charge of him.

Alfred wasn't even the Waynes long time butler at first he was a guy Bruce hired when becoming Batman for this job who became his friend and employee first. It was during a rewritten backstory that this occurred. And in some modern takes Alfred's father was the one who knew Bruce first and Alfred only joined shortly before the Waynes murders moving there from England so he literally takes kver his dad's job following his father's death only for his employers to be immediately murdered and get custody of a kid he is only just getting to know and was not prepared for.

Also Alfred's personality has changed a lot over the decades. His character has drastically shifted so it can be hard to see how certain people view him certain ways because of which version was their introduction/they've seen the most. Like in some he is a pretty silly guy who is willing to play video games and watches daytime soaps getting super invested and feeds bats or asks Dick about his "adventures" when he is starting out others his much more strict with boundaries and cold and struggles to connect with people especially the kids his in charge of. LikeAlfred's portrayals do vary even in more subtle ways like how he talks to or about Bruce and how he reacts to various Batkids and their relationships with him can be close or distant.

I just think it is interesting how the character's connections were grown in after the fact and he became more central.

Daedalus and Icarus & Lost Days are a terror to reconcile with the obvious aging Jason undergoes over the time if Lost Days because D&I has him go through 3.5 years before he's ever awake. And then Lost Days looks like it shows at least a couple years of growth for him before his premiere in Gotham. While D&I seems to have much less training time then seems to be in Lost Days given how tiny Jason is at the beginning of the training period in LD versus in D&I. But the issue is even with a super condensed Tim Timlines that has him waking up barely in time for War Games. Unless it actually is like 7-10 years of Tim as Robin.

And yet again I hate comic timeline reconciliation. I've condensed the Red Hood Timeline as well because base off my mix it would actually stick him in No Man's Land during the year on the street which is interesting to theoretically unpack later in anlther fic but I am not fussing with now.

As much as I complain about it, it is actually very fun for me specifically to work on figuring timeline out for various characters' runs.

So this may be the best/worst part of joining DC and it's very similar to when my grandmother attempted to very ineffectual punish me by organizing certain parts of the kitchen and so I deep dived into her cans and food and had a blast focusing hard on this.

Figuring out comic timelines gives me the same little pleasure as organizing my grandmother's foods and the best part of working in a grocery store which was getting to restock uninterrupted and neaten up messes to my own discretion.
