Dear Puppy,

Do you know that you were the first friend I’ve made? I was quite clueless at that time, but more than a year passed, wondering how I will spend my times friendless... and I happened to find you! I’m glad to still have you as a very great friend— or as a puppy soul mate! ㅋㅋㅋ You are so adorable, filled with energy. You're always with a bright smile on your face, childish at times... or perhaps most of the time. ㅋ But I love the way you are. It makes me smile to see you always so cheerful.

I was sad when you left. They were times I wondered if you'll come back-- and then typist forgot your typist's birthday... ;; It has been over a year that we know each other! Wah! Time flies so fast and things didn't seem to change in our friendship, except that it keeps growing stronger and stronger with each passing day.

Unni! It is sad that we can’t hang out or even handle a small conversation since our schedules never matched… ㅠㅠ But even with the previous little discussions we’ve had so far, I want you to know that I really, really love you. I’m glad to have met you, and I hope we’ll find time to go out together!

You are not only my friend, but also an older sister to me. You have taken care of me when I was down and extremely lost, not knowing when I would be able to stand up on my own. You were there during that rough period… Thank you so much, Unni. Your cooking, even if you believe isn’t great, is delicious! I would be happy to eat pastries baked by Unni again! We can always cook together someday too!

I am really looking forward to many, many things we can do, Unni! Until then, I hope you are doing well, eat and sleep properly. Things aren’t too exhaustive for you at the moment, right? Fighting with everything! I love you! ♥

Dear Mom, Dear Dad

Dear Mom & Dad,

I do not think a letter would be appropriate to express my thoughts and feelings… Only words wouldn’t be enough. But I presume it’s the most convenient for now, and I’ll quickly catch up with better explanations with a video call or a visit at home! Yes, I do plan on staying home over a weekend since I have more free time than usual nowadays… And nothing bad happened. No need to worry!

I… I know Appa and Umma would like to know how I’ve been since I haven’t called these past weeks… And I’m very sorry. The last time I’ve spoken to you was when the car crash happened… Strangely, I’ve distanced myself from many people at that time. I isolated myself within the apartment, rarely coming out. I presume I did not want to worry anyone and let the tears flow until they were none or barely none to show… I’m alright now. I’m well surrounded after all… and I’ll forever be thankful to my friends who I must have scared them with my unusual behavior.

Still, I want to apologize to them all… I don’t really understand why. I want to deeply apologize to Umma and Appa as well since all I have been doing was injuring you… Ever since I’ve decided to be an artist, you encouraged me without fail… but I knew how stressful it must have been since it was a rough road, filled with bumps and potholes of various sizes and depths. And when I thought we were done with all the hardships we’d gone through, fate decided to add another one… And this one, I wanted to deal it on my own. It was incredibly difficult, but I somehow managed to overcome it with some help.

I’m alright now, Appa and Umma! I am trying my best to maintain my good mood. I’ll keep thinking positively like usual. I must keep looking forward to the good things that will surely happen soon, right? I’ll come visit very, very soon!

It feels like it has been a while that I haven’t seen you— I hope you are doing fine. Not too exhausted? How’s everything going? I have recently watched your newest Japanese song! It is very good! Tell Yonghwa Oppa to shorten his time under the spotlight since I could barely see you and the others in the music video, even if he’s the one singing. But it’s good that I saw you more often than Jonghyun Oppa (Shh! Don’t tell him I said that)! ㅋㅋㅋ 

Oppa looks very handsome as well! I just hope that you are all resting properly! Say, we should do something when you can find an tiny empty slot in your schedules. I would like to repay you somehow for your kindness and for how you treat me ever since our trainee days. But I know paying your meal won’t be enough… At least, you will get to eat whatever you want! Dear Bestie,

You are so far away… I would have gotten used to it due to our schedules and how scarce we would meet whenever we get our free time matched, but it’s not the same when you are in another continent—I really hope you are doing alright. I hope things are going well on your side! You deserve the quietness and ease of mind you deserved after being in a dilemma for a long time.

You are perhaps thinking the same for me… I have been fine. Don’t worry. They are so many things I want to discuss with you, but it will take pages and pages— and I’m sure you have already a lot of things to read. And.. is it essential to mention that I miss you terribly? You know I do as I’m losing track of you. I really, really, really, really, really, really… I don’t think this abusive repetition would be enough to define it. I just really miss you. Immensely, intensely…

While I am here, I have found a friend with whom I could confide my deepest worries to— I wonder if you have one on your side, someone to keep you from drifting away, from constantly daydreaming. We can’t rely on each other because of the distance… It is so different now.

When are you coming for a visit, hmm? I wish soon so we can spend a lot of quality time together! And I really have many things to tell you… like the fact that I took a hiatus from my music career and that I have been wandering around to get inspiration and most of the missing pieces— for what? I don’t really know. I can’t guess the full image…

Dear half sister,

How unlikely are the chances of meeting someone with this strong connection from the start? We seem to understand each other without the need of expressing our emotions through words or obvious gestures. We are both very subtle, camouflaging the pain with smiles and hyperactivity. We both have gone through rough periods we do not wish to recall. Yet, we end up reliving them due to our mind constantly rewinding the memories at unexpected times— when will it cease? I do not know, but together, we’ll manage somehow.

I am grateful of your presence in my life, Unni. I can reveal my struggles so easily with you… it’s incredible how at ease I am to converse about my problems with you. I don’t need to explain further, to add details out of fear that you wouldn’t fully grasp my point of view, but you do. Thank you for being by my side, and even if I get tired from seeing you being overly excited over trivial things in the house, it is enough to make me smile. So never change, Unni! I love you just the way you are~!

Dear big Oppa,

It may sound odd, but from the first day we’ve met, it felt like our encounter was fated at that precise moment. I don’t understand how and why specifically, but I am more than grateful and thankful that our paths crossed when my mind let my darkest feelings take over. I’m still sorry that your first impression of me is the opposite from who I really am. I’m still sorry that you have seen me lifeless and struck with immense sorrow, forcing a fake smile constantly.

Still, we have gone through a similar situation, yours being done before mine. Seeing you going forward in life keeps me motivated to do the same. I know I haven’t completely lost myself, and I am slowly gathering the pieces back. Lately, I am feeling better. I’ve noticed how my mood seems to lighten up in company of amazing people and even new faces.

Slowly, I am noticing many things I almost forgot that make me smile so effortlessly. I know I’m still far from the cheerful and bubbly Juniel you have not yet met, but slowly and surely, you will be able to see her.

Thank you for taking care of me like an older brother would. Thank you for being by my side and supporting me. Thank you for dealing with my depressive self whenever it happens out of the blue.
