Oh cool, I found some old ramblings I did about this OC earlier in the year I think?? Dunno if I ever posted this on tumblr before...?
++++
Basic gist: O PROTAGONIST U SUCH A CARD
Oh the positive, goofy side of things, they're a silly space case! Who'd really fit in with the galactic grunts, so its damn weird that I didn't originally intend that XD I guess I always hold them close to my heart so they slip into other plotlines???
Their particular type of spaceyness is like... "i have no idea what I'm doing and that's perfectly okay". A super perpetually calm person who can just take anything in stride no matter what it is, to the degree that they completely stop making sense. Like.. running on the strangest backwards logic and having absolutely no awareness that they're remotely weird.
And general inexperience with normal life despite being really good at... well, being the ideal grunt. They seem practically preprogrammed to follow all orders and never ask questions. And their morality is like... innocent and good-natured but not necessarily heroic. A neutral person who doesn't really understand good and evil, only following orders. Minions aren't meant to think about that stuff, that's boss work!
And obviously this level of super agreeableness makes them a little nieve, but also sometimes they end up seeing stuff that other people miss. Like.. "too dumb to fool". Completely straightforward, rather than the normal kind of nieve. So straightforward that sometimes it's impossible to trick them because you'd have to sit down and explain the entire trick before they'd even get it.
I can imagine Charon getting frustrated trying to bribe protagonist and them just being like "BUT WHY". Like.. a frustratingly circular conversation of "WHY DON'T YOU WANT IT" "but why should I want it" "money can be exchanged for goods and services" "explain how" *three hour explanation of the entire currency system* "ah i see" "then take it" "but it's not my wallet" "its a bribe" "but its not my bribe" "GAHHH" "we should take it to the lost and found office"
Ironically he probably could have tricked them just by ordering them to stand aside :P
Basically, I really liked Guardromon from Digimon Tamers, so this character is like the human incarnation of this particular scene:
Ah! Literal-minded! That's the archetype I was trying to describe! Okay, that.
That. *waves arms* All of that.
Except sometimes its not merely interpreting stuff literally but just interpreting stuff like.. innocently. Neutrally. Not understanding contexts and connotations and social rules and like.. all logic, rather than merely the concept of literalness.
Spent too long just taking stuff without question and obeying without understanding the reasons why something should even be done. So now they're confused at this situation where they have to make their own decisions for the first time.
...Except they're kinda like a slow-moving trainwreck since they have a "no need to worry about it, it'll work itself out" sort of philosophy XD
"There's a fire over there!!" "Yes." "Aren't you gonna do something about it?" "Yes." *continues staring, waiting for orders* *dorky smile*
And they're also just generally a very nice person who's super excited about all these new things and eager to please. And they can't stand people being sad, and they really wanna make friends cos they never had any. And they always put 100% of their heart into everything and never give up, even when it's terrifying! And then of course they're just mega ultra loyal to the point of self destructiveness, which can be both a good and a bad thing...
They also seem to be kinda savant-like about picking up new skills. Well, its not really an innate talent but rather something that they've really worked to develop. They just have the stubbornness to work super hard until they master something, and a bit of a neurotic fear of failure. (Also asking for help counts as failure, which is part of why they just freeze up and stare at the problem until new orders arrive, rather than even asking for new orders...)
Lol I seem to have a lot of feels for my own character???
Anyway in summary they're not a very villainous villain, they have quite a few obstacles in life, and they're gonna have a lot of positive character development. Also hugging small potato pokemon! (well, or whichever other starter you might get XD)
Oh and yeah I've already developed a Sad Backstory for yo protagonistyness, and I can't recall if I talked about it in a previous journal or not but.. yeah. Dunno if anyone would be interested in me rambling about that too...?
ALSO
A THOUGHT
I was thinking maybe they could date Mars or Saturn
Like... its gonna be a whole friendship sidequests thing with the other characters, but i know other people like romances so I figured I may as well throw in a bit of romances in the giant pile of friendships. Cos I know how I love when games have one friendship option in the pile of romances, like Persona 3 Portable added ONE ACTUAL MALE CHARACTER THAT CAN BEFRIEND PROTAGONIST AND NOT JUST DATE HER *and the heavens opened up* *and the angels sang* *and trumpets everywhere like its hoenn all over again* But uhh on the other hand there's like a million games where there's nothing but dating so I guess I can use that as an excuse for having a nothing but friendships game. But then if I tried to give romances for everyone then I don't even know how to write some of them romanceying, and I can't try and do all the fandom's fave shipping headcanons cos they're mutually contradictory and I don't agree with most of them. Like.. should I change stuff to be what everyone else would want instead of what's actually my headcanon...? I just saw all the Team Galactics as platonic friendos but everyone else ships someone with someone
ROMANCE IS TOO CONFUSING
anyway
but
I did kinda think of ways i could write romantic chemistry between Mars and the protagonist. And then I figured it'd suck if there was only ONE romantic option so there should be another gender one too, I guess. *shrug*
Or I could just go "screw it" and channel that inspiration into writing Mars's friendship route instead.
In any case you get to hug Mars and take a Meaningful Nap together.
....
....
Makes more sense in context, its like... for her that's the 'I absolutely trust you' ultimate sign of affection. I headcanon her as having a particular problem with sleeping so its like.. if she can feel comfortable sleeping with you sitting at her bedside and doesn't get any night terrors for once, then that's The Ultimate Friendship And/Or Romantics. Except its even more ultimate if she can just fall asleep leaning on your shoulder and doesn't even realise she did it, like 'whoa holy shit i haven't done that in years- thanks bud'
...sorry, I'll explain it better in the actual context, lol.
I HAVE SO MUCH INSPIRATION AND NO CLUE HOW TO TIE IT ALL TOGETHER AAAAAAAAA
I had a dream that I was on lsd a couple nights ago, it was a trip. So I turned it into a song. Made this with intentions of experimenting and learning.
