psych student here, found this interesting article on celebrity worship and i think this part here sums it up quite nicely:
interesting topic for sure, but regarding your post about the jikook truther—i don't think it's an example cognitive dissonance, it's far past that point 🤡 cd happens when your attitudes/beliefs and behavior don't align so you feel uneasy and try to find a way to resolve it. with hardcore stans ("delulus"), they seem to firmly believe in the things they do. their behavior and attitudes are in sync (sadly) and at this point, it (obsessive shipping and worshipping) could be potentially very damaging to them as individuals.
this is why it's so very important to take a step back from celebrities every now and then and draw the line. obsessive stanning and worshiping definitely has negative effects on mental health. i'm very happy to see you allow such conversations on your blog though, it definitely needs more attention. again, it's very refreshing to see.
i hope u have a nice day 😁
oh wow!! thank you so much for this message, it really helped me put some things into perspective. that's so cool that you study psychology too! i always had an interest in it tbh, and in this case it definitely comes in handy.
i've seen delusional shippers in a lot of fandoms, so it's easy for me to spot the same patterns in jikookers (the same as, for example larries) but it's so weird how they repeat the same mistakes and no one inside the cult seems to notice :/ it's also pretty annoying because this is real people they are talking about and the way they talk about jungkook and jimin clearly shows they don't see them as real people. they are just characters in a movie for them. it's a fanfic come to life as far as they're concerned.
i hope you have a great day too <3 i'll probably come back to this bc it just makes me so frustrated to see these truthers ruin the fandom little by little but it's nice to have the perspective of someone who is actually studying human psychology lol
