I didn't know KMD or Queen Latifah were apart of Native Tongues until I heard "Native Sons", but for all that pro-illegal immigration talk from Kweli at the top of the LP, I'm surprised he left out The Beatnuts when going down the collective's itenary. But then again, what would Brooklyn be without Little Caribbean? *** Solene's voice on "Sing Into The Sky" was something else and Planet Asia's delivery on "Pay Homage" makes me think that Big Twins and Asia are overdue for a joint project. "Turnstyle" is my favorite track on this LP. Buckshot has a scene-stealing appearance and the hook is infectious and brings back C train memories as a visitor to Bucktown. "SWAT" carries similar call and response illness. Rawls and Kweli on "Confidence of Knowing" carry enough chemistry to hold listeners down through the tape with jewels to pickup and debatable content in regards to Kweli's political stances. An engaging listen, which should be the norm for what is considered "Hip-Hop". - C.V.R. The Bard 1st/Dec.2k24
