Recently, I had the opportunity to interview 20-year-old Monique Wooden. She is a Political Science major at SF State, mentor at SF Promise and is a part of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. She is originally from Vallejo, Calif. but currently lives in Park Merced.
I asked Monique to share her story because I thought it was an important one to tell. Everyone in class is a student who has to commute to school in some way. Even people who live closest to school have to walk to and from. Sometimes that may be even more dangerous.
March 7, Monique was walking home from her night class when at 8:55 pm she was held at gunpoint just outside her home. In this interview Monique recalls her experience and suggests what people in the future should do to protect themselves at night.

On December 13, 2011 I followed Gabriel Johnson, a sailor and handyman for Spinnaker Sailing, as he worked on various sailboats throughout the day.
What I found was working outside and smelling the ocean is a relaxing and fulfilling work environment.

An Examination of the 2010 FBI Hate Crime Stats by bias
Every year the FBI releases Hate Crime Statistics detailing the number of reported hate crimes by type of crime, type of bias motivation and type of victim.
The first graph shows the percent of hate crimes reported by types of bias motivation.
As you can see, anti-race motivation hate crimes are still the most common hate crimes reported, though anti-religion and anti-sexual orientation also have high rates.
The second two graphs are a more in-depth look at the different anti-sexual motivation biases.
