Early 1946, the last months of locomotive #5426 a Hudson J3a 4-6-4 Class photographed here with its new Centipede PT Tender hauling the Empire State Express train. Giant poppies have been painted on West Lothian’s famous pyramids at J3a of the M8 to show support for Scotland’s war heroes.
The three giant poppies have been painted to celebrate the 90th Anniversary, this November, of the Scottish Poppy Appeal, which provides life-changing support to veterans and their families.
Ground staff from both Murrayfield stadium and Hampden Park joined forces to paint the 10m x 10m artworks on October 31.
Jim Dawson from Murrayfield says: “This was quite a challenge as we’re not used to painting designs on to such steep surfaces! However, we were very keen to get involved to support Poppyscotland and we’re delighted with the result.”
The paintings will be visible to passing motorists for the next two weeks, helping raise awareness of the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
