Sam said on After Dark that he would "still like to play vampires" but he doesn't know if he could do it. It's understandable since he has been playing vampires for a long time now. He started off playing Dracula in a play, then played a vampire whose name I don't remember in some movie I don't remember and now Lestat till the show ends. I don't know if there were other vampire roles. Jacob still said Sam will find his way back to vampires since he is very connected to vampirism. I think Jacob is right because Sam has sneaked in vampiric elements even while discussing other characters he played who weren't even in a fantasy setting.
Sam seems committed to the series. When fans met him after his play recently and asked about season 4 he was smiling. When shown an artwork of Raglan in Lestat's body with Rashid he said that'll be in season 5. He always talks about the show and Lestat like he is in it for the long haul. Wanting to take a break seems normal after doing some grueling work this season. Jacob had to do his stone scattering ritual in NOLA and Dubai after season 2 to let go of Louis for a while before returning for TVL. After reading this article I feel like Jacob is also in till it ends although he signs season by season so things can change? Sam seems to have signed on for 5 seasons.
You know, that makes more sense in context. And admittedly, vampires are a really intense role. They’re immortal. They’re sexy. They feel losses deeply and loves deeply and deeper than most because they hold them forever. Playing that must take getting into a very intense headspace. And he was talking about the committed fan bases and well, yeah. Every vampire fandom I’ve been in has had a few screws loose (lovingly). I think it’s that it draws people in who are pre-disposed to thinking about death and dying. They’re also some of the most wonderful people I’ve met. They’ll hold you when you’re having a crisis situation. They’ll still be your friend when the next new thing comes around. I hope he also gets to experience the wonderful side of “the beautiful unwell”.
Also, thank you for sharing all of this! This is exciting to hear. Also I’m happy for him because I think he said he wanted to get into body thief stuff, so seeing a hint of that is very cool. Also, I’m hoping Jacob gets to do it with him because as we’ve talked about their chemistry is so so special. I like that stone scattering idea. That’s such a nice way to find closure.
