“we were supposed to make fettuccini but you’re a child that likes to start food fights apparently”
it wasn’t a secret that florentina loved to cook, especially when it was for leonardo, and she typically asked him to help her with little things here and there. most notably: reaching the spices on not even the top shelf because she couldn’t reach without a step ladder. florentina would usually ask him to grab something off of the higher shelves for her on any random day, it didn’t have to be while she was cooking, and he would always laugh at her, but it was all in food fun. which is why she didn’t think anything of it when she asked leo to grab the black pepper and oregano from the shelf while she chopped the fresh parsley and grated the parmigiano reggiano; well, she should have thought something of it. she always left a bag of flour next to the stove when she was making an alfredo sauces for their fettuccini, just because she sometimes added too much cream and wanted to thicken everything up just a bit. what a mistake that was, because as soon as she turned around to grab the spices from his hands, he had a pinch of flour and flicked it right at her. flour was dusted all over her hair and nose, and florentina just closed her eyes and went to wipe away her face, a look of pseudo annoyance spread across her features. “leonardo,” she warned, but yet again he flicked another pinch of flour at her, this time coating his t-shirt that she was wearing. the joke was really on him, or at least that’s what she told herself. looking up at him amused expression only annoyed her even more, and florentina dipped her fingers into the bag of flour and sprinkled it over the top of his head and down his torso until she was basically smothered in it; that’s when the war broke out and there was no going back. pasta, flour, herbs, dish towels, water: all of it was fair game and neither of them were really showing any mercy. the poor cabinets were covered by the time they ran out of things to throw at each other, and try to dodge from too, and all of their shrieks and laughter died down as they slowly came to an end. florentina was covered, head to toe, in almost every ingredient she was working with; the only thing missing was the olive oil, which leo was kind enough not to douse her in. she found herself walking up to him, hands up in surrender, with a bit of a smirk against her lips. “you win, you win,” she started, a playful roll of the eyes tacked on, “your prize is getting to clean me up.” the brunette smiled this time, eyeing him up and down before nodding towards the bathroom.

for all that was leo’s tall, dark, handsome, and mysterious image, florentina was lucky enough to catch a glimpse at who he truly is. and yes, he is tall, dark, and handsome, not to mention a little mysterious, but he’s also so much more than that too. spontaneous and surprising are probably fair in describing leo, and when he suggested going into town to the festa, flor was pretty surprised that he would want to go in the first place, let alone that he wanted to go and ride the ferris wheel with her. admittedly, florentina is a hopeless romantic, and a date that included some sort of fried dough and a ferris wheel ride was a perfectly intimate one for her, but she definitely never expected leo to be the one to suggest it. as they stood in line to the ride with their tickets in hand, flor looped her arm with his, resting her cheek against his shoulder as they waited. she was already wrapped up in one of his sweatshirts, as she forget one and it was rather breezy that night, which only solidified how wrapped up in him she already was. they hadn’t been dating much more than a year, and florentina was still finding new things that she really loved about him. he was essentially her polar opposite, but when it boiled down to it, they had just enough in common to find themselves happy in being together. when it finally came time for them to take a seat on the ferris wheel to ride, it was a long ride up to the top, and florentina decided his shoulder was far too comfortable to move from, so she didn’t. her legs fit over his lap and her head rested against his shoulder perfectly, and he didn’t seem to mind a bit. she was so comfortable and content that she perked right up as soon as she heard his voice: “there’s a myth that couples that kiss together when they reach the top of a ferris wheel will stay together forever, but i don’t believe that stuff … obviously.”. she heard the lack of conviction in his voice, and it nearly made her melt, and just as they reached the top, so moved from against him to get a better look at him as a goofy grin spread across her lips. “oh bello,” she mused, bringing her hand up to his cheek as she ran her thumb against his skin, “of course you don’t believe that stuff.” she said with an amused smile, although the weight of his words really sank in. she loved him, truly, and was starting to see the ‘forever’ kind of future with him, and it was the first time that he had ever said that outloud to her, and it really did tickle her heart. which is why she couldn’t resist as she leaned in, brushing her lips against his in the most delicate of ways, finding it hard to stop herself from smiling through it. “i could do that … forever.” she whispered, pressing her forehead against his, hoping he was catching on to what she was maybe too afraid to say to him just yet.
