The rumor come out

Ok so. I’ve given this a lot of thought.

Jac is a typical Junker. She’s kinda been raised with the rhetoric that Omnics are bad and whatnot and she hasn’t really gotten out of the Outback much.

Alinta, however...

Alinta left Junkertown for a few years, traveled Oz for a bit. Don’t think she really left the general area of Oceania. But! It’s given her perspective. She lived during the crisis and now she’s seeing stuff from after everything. And she... doesn’t actually hate Omnics. I don’t think she ever felt the same level of animosity toward them as a lot of the other Junkers did, but for a bit, she did have a grudge, both at them and the government.

Her time travelling hasn’t... healed her, per se, but as I said, it’s given her perspective and time to think and process everything a little better and a little differently.

She’s definitely not great at all of it? Years of watching her home get fucked up etc etc has kind of ingrained certain shit into her that she has to work to reverse, but she’s not gonna sit there and pretend they’re the collective antichrist. Patience is something required for the reverse engineering of her prejudice.

So, we know about how Jac feels about omnics and that's fair but how does she feel about overwatch and heroes like those of overwatch who kinda travel the world and keep it safe. I always imagined it'd be bad since they weren't really around to help when australia got ruined ;-;

An interesting question! I haven’t thought much on it, honestly. But! My initial thought on it is that she has very mixed feelings.

Overwatch was there to stop the Omnics the world over, but at the same time--they completely ignored Oz even during the crisis, it seemed. And it was one of the ones that got hit the hardest, nearly being completely destroyed. Then the omnium blew and no one came to help them. They were, again, on their own.

But sUuUuUuUuUrE~, they’ll head to King’s Row despite international orders not to and they’ll fuck up a Rialto mission, but help Australians suffering from radiation from the omnium? Help Australians rebuild after nearly being wiped off the fuckin’ map?

She just feels... complicated about it.

Tax day.

While she avoided dealing with other children for a while--they poked fun at her for the color around her eyes as well as her nose shape--Jac had been counting the days since the last tax collection. It always meant one of the enforcers would come, maybe threaten to rough them up. While her mother, Alinta, refused to comply, her father, Martin, would give in and pay the taxes for his family, for fear the enforcers were more than just talk.

However Martin wasn’t home this time. Jac wasn’t sure why he’d left, knowing it was tax day... maybe he’d forgotten? Honestly, she wasn’t sure when he’d be coming back, either. He’d left in such a rush that she didn’t get to ask where he was going. Must’ve been urgent.

Meanwhile, Alinta had taken to hiding all of their valuables, ranting about the “The Queen” (she always put it in air quotes) and her lackeys, the Enforcers, half in English and half in Arrernte, the latter of which Jac could only pick up certain words. She busied herself putting the last of it away when there was a knock at the door from what was clearly a heavy, massive hand. Waving for Jac to answer the door, she ran into one of their back rooms to finish.

When she opened the door, she was met with the swell of a stomach, even as she looked up. “Uh... g’day...?”

Living inside, or at least near Junkertown wasn’t half bad. Steady food, clean water, a relatively stable area, for what it was. Sure, it was filled to the brim with angry anarchic Aussies who had a beef with both the government and Omnics, but it had yet to come crashing down.

Of course there were still the unfortunate people who had nowhere to go. No family to go to or a place to call home. While it wasn’t something she’d suffered herself, she was brought up to help those who needed it most. In this case? It was the tiny, skinny sprog that lived not far from the chunk of wall her family had made their home.

It was early, yet, and breakfast was the most important meal of the day, so she gathered up the leftovers, to her parents’ confusion, and brought it outside. She wasn’t terribly sure what the kid’s name was, so she couldn’t call out for him with anything other than ‘kid’ and ‘sprog’. She wanted to be quick so the food didn’t get too cold. Eggs, grilled tomatoes, sausage, bacon, hash browns, and toast with a thin Vegemite spread.

Nearly defeated, something in the shade of one of the halls between buildings caught her eye. Peering in, she spotted him, nodding off against the wall. Her thick brows furrowed and she shuffled closer, crouching in front of him and speaking softly. “Hey sprog,” she said, giving him a gentle nudge. “Got some brekkie for ya, eh? Ain’t ya hungry?”
