Okay so here's my thing: I figured I would hop right into part 2 of my babby Tim fic after finishing part 1, and then a really fucked up Tim/Ra's idea jumped into my head and got me by the throat, and now I have mood whiplash from my own brain/writing?!

Also, a scene from my truly stupid, self-indulgent "Jason and Tim accidentally become bros immediately" fic sprung into my sleepy mind and then poured itself out of my fingers fully formed into a Google Doc.

So. I may be writing multiple longfics at the same time. Wish me luck?!

Might have accidentally started writing a Jason lives AU, which I'm glad to report is exactly as full of angst-potential as him dying, but the angst is DIFFERENT. And really, isn't that what AUs are all about?

Also the one scene I've actually written is very funny, so there's that.

So I recently saw a post saying that Tim was never canonically abused, and my mandated reporter senses are tingling. I think a lot of people have a set definition of abuse in their heads that includes physical violence, but... that's not actually true. Abuse is basically repeated mistreatment. It can take many forms, and Tim did canonically experience several of them growing up, including in his relationship with Bruce (because abuse doesn't have to be intentional!).

IDK, I don't wanna turn this into a detailed post, bc I come on tumblr to get away from day job shit. But it just makes me sad to see people missing the various non-physical forms of abuse that have been both depicted on the page and referenced or heavily implied in Tim's life, because it mirrors the same phenomenon in real life. :/

like the fandom exaggerates it for sure and definitely adds a lot of physical and verbal abuse that isn't canon, that's fandoms with everything, but that doesn't mean there was NO mistreatment going on there

Yeah... Neglect being abuse that people don't see is a big thing. Especially if you've got a kid like Tim, who had material comforts, so there's not necessarily physical signs of neglect. But our brains REALLY suffer from a lack of social interaction! Even extremely introverted people do need socialization, and that's extra true for children.

Also, yes, I agree that fandom adds additional stuff! Tim is a popular target for whump, and his sad childhood is a natural jumping off point for fan creators. I've seen a lot of hcs around his childhood that lean into physical and more obvious verbal abuse.

However: there is verbal/emotional abuse literally in the comics. It's canon that Tim and Jack had a basically non-existent relationship before Janet's death, and Jack attempting to change that (on his terms and not Tim's) is a significant story arc. It's canon that Jack sent him to boarding school rather than spend the time to actually address the challenges his son was having. It's canon that Jack essentially blackmailed Tim into quitting Robin stuff! That's extremely fucked up.

It's not fans making Tim a woobie to point out that he was severely neglected, then manipulated by his father into having a version of their relationship that benefitted Jack and not Tim.

Here's my problem: I have multiple fics brewing with variations of the same premise (Tim figures out who Jay is before Hood is ready for his fancy reveal) and I love all of them... but do I really want to write that fic 4-5 times?

I mean. Yeah. I kinda do.

But do I want to if three of them have now decided to become sprawling multi-chapter epics?!

...maybe still yeah.

While it is really frustrating that in LGBT+ people think that the A that stands for asexual actually stands for ally (as in straight ally) why we gotta take it out on straight people?? Straight people on a whole did nothing wrong why aren't we annoyed at the people WHO INSIST THAT THAT'S WHAT IT STANDS FOR. Not even straight allies (unless it's the entitled shitty ones) just the people who upon being informed that it actually stands for asexual refuse to accept that or don't check to see if their mistake is correct
