Little Nun
Jack Hanma x Nun! Reader
Jack and romance has never gone together, he never cared for it nor did he ever think of it. It was just something he never thought he'd want to deal with or had time for... But that all changed when he met you.
It was at the church that he's recently discovered in Canada. He was visiting his mother, and filled with grief and strife for her he noticed a church... He needed answers and he was desperate for a miracle. This old church, is where he met you. A young nun, trying her best to serve god. He didn't think much of you at the time, standing next to the pastor, you were beautiful though. You were holding a large, golden bowl, it was filled with wine, or what the pastor called it, the blood of Jesus. Your kind eyes scanned over the people of the church, it was a full house this Sunday morning. Every face you seen you recognized, until you seen him, your eyes widening when you noticed him, he was honestly surprised you didn't notice him when he first came in.
His eyes caught yours and you quickly looked down, averting your gaze. When it was time, everyone in the churched lined up before you, each dipping the same wine glass into the golden bowl, drinking the blood of Jesus. When it was his turn, your bright eyes looked up at him, locking with his more dull stare. You raised the bowl some, trying to compensate for his tall stature. His eyes soften, silently appreciating the action, you didn't wan him to have to struggle, he found it sweet. He took his gulp, and with a bow of his head, he was gone.
That was about 2 months ago. Since then, he's seen you a total of 3 times, he didn't come by every Sunday, but when he did, you seemed to always be there. The first two times, you nodded at him, and he nodded back, both too shy to talk to one another. Jack didn't want to scare you off, and surprisingly you felt the same for him. On the third time, he spoke to you first, it was after services when he seen you. You were out behind the church, filling up a bucket with water, he wasn't necessarily looking for you, he was really just walking to clear his head when he seen you.
You were in your own little world, he didn't want to scare you off, so he made sure you could hear him approach from behind. His plan worked, as you looked back with an expecting gaze, but it quickly changed to shock when you seen him. You quickly turned the small nozzle, shutting off the water, before you stood up straight, both of your hands wrapped around the metal handle of the bucket. He stopped about a foot away from you, his gaze gentle but observant. You spoke first. "Brother Jack... What a surprise to see you back here... Did you need something?" You asked him. Most people only came seeking you out if they needed something, so you assumed it was the same for him.
"No... Not really... I didn't even know you were back here... I was just walking to clear my head in all honesty." He said. You nodded your head in understanding before you gave him a small smile. "Has your walk proved to be fruitful thus far?" You kindly asked, adjusting your grip on the handle. He noticed, his eyes darting down to your small hands. "I can carry that for you... It seems heavy." He offered. You looked down at the bucket, your hand did hurt, it wasn't your plan to hold the bucket for this long. You looked back up at him with a carefree smile.
"No... It's fine." You said, but your hands quickly switch places, and your shoulders slightly rolled. He seen all of this, and a knowing look crossed his face. "You know... God knows when we all lie... And in order to be smiled upon, you must be truthful, little nun." He said in a knowing tone. You blinked and the bright gleam in your eyes softened into a guilty one.
Well... My hands do hurt." You admitted. He gave a soft hum as he held out his hand. You stared at it in wonderment. His palm was just as large as he was, it looked just as powerful and rough... But right now, it looked so gentle. You placed the handled in his palm carefully, moving slow so as not to hurt him, but once the handle was placed in his hand and you moved back, he held it like it weighed nothing.
You stared at his hand for a moment, before you looked down at yours, they were small and looked flared and irritated from the handle. You squeezed your hands, your nails digging into your palm where the pain was. You then looked up at him and flashed him a sweet yet thankful smile. "Thank you, Brother Jack." You said. He nodded, the corners of his mouth twitching. After that, he helped you carry the bucket back into the church, a small talk bloomed between you two, but nothing more. After that, Jack wasn't at the church anymore, he had just vanished, for an entire month, you almost completely forgot about him until he reappeared one day.
It was a rainy Wednesday, it's been raining all day, not a break from the down pour in sight. You were in the church alone, on your knees before the alter, you were praying when the doors opening echoed out. You perked up and looked over your shoulder. They widened when they landed on a soaking wet Jack. He seemed relaxed, his eyes landing on you, harden from the streets they softened when he saw you. You smiled at him, silently welcoming him in. He closed the doors, as he walked towards the alter, you stood up and rushed to the back, gathering a soft towel from a storage closet, grabbing a towel, you ran back, spotting him in the same spot you were in. His head was bowed and his hands clasped together.
You smiled happily walking up to him, silently amazed by his height, he was so tall, just him being on his knees he was your height. You placed the towel on his head, gently drying him off as he prayed. It wasn't a long prayer, but it was enough for him, he opened his eyes, gently thanking you as he took over on drying his face. You sat down, sighing, you were relaxed. He sat down next to you, the wood creaking under his weight. You both sat there in silence, enjoying each others company and the peace that was the house of god. Jack eventually spoke.
"What made you want to become a nun?" He asked out of the blue. You didn't look up at him, but you knew he was already looking at you. He watched as your relaxed gaze went dull with memories, your face slowly falling as what he could only guess was sadness crossing your face. "My father... He's the pastor of this church... I became a nun, because I wanted him to notice and accept me." You explained. Jack's eyes widen, a familiar gleam in his eyes, as your words resonated with him. You were like him... Trying to gain the recognition of his father... Wanting to be noticed, wanting to prove himself, so that his father will finally notice him and allow him the chance to fight him.
His gaze soften and he gave a bitter huff of amusement. He looked off from you, looking up at the stained glass window. The cloudy sky had made the vibrant colors more dull, but the image of Mother Mary holding a baby Jesus was still noticeable. He gave a bitter smile. "You and me both, little nun." He said softly. You looked up at him, your gaze unreadable before you gave him a small smile. You looked up at the stained glass as well, both of you sitting in silence.
After that, both you and Jack became closer, he began visiting more regularly, he couldn't commit to every Sunday, but he could commit to a random day, and you were fine with that. You learnt more about Jack, just as he learnt more about you. You learned that he was an only child on his mother side, but he had a half brother on his father side, who you could tell he loved very much. You learnt that he's Canadian-Japanese, and that he grew up here in Canada, and that he wasn't planned but his mother loved him anyways. You learnt that his father wasn't a good man, that he's a fighter, the strongest creature on earth, and that he disowned Jack. He also told you that he wanted to fight his father, to get revenge of what he did to his mother... Whatever he did, Jack never told you.
Jack also learned about you as well. He learned that you were from a large family of 8, you're the second to youngest of 6 siblings. He learnt that your early childhood was happy, full of love and laughter, but once you turned 6, it all changed. You're mother grew sick one day, and none of you knew what was wrong with her. Doctors also didn't know what was wrong with her, but they worked endlessly to figure it out, but it wasn't looking good. Your father was still hopeful, your mother though... Not so much.
She was growing weaker and weaker by the day, and she knew she was going to die. But she kept a smile on her face. She still got up and cooked, cleaned, played, and went to church with your father every Sunday, till she couldn't anymore. You watched your mother deteriorate. You watched as she grew pale, her muscles shrink, her appetite becoming nonexistence. You watched her hair become frail, you watched as she lost her ability to walk, her cheeks became sunken, her body turning into a skeleton, but she never stopped being a mother. All of your older siblings lost hope, your father prayed harder, and your baby brother was too young to understand, but even he knew, he was going to loose his mother soon.
Close to her end, she asked you and all of your other siblings, to care and love your father, for they were all he had left of her. You held this promise close to your heart... Out of all of your siblings, you looked the most like your mother... When you got older, you suspected this was part of the reason as to why he began to do what he did... After your Mother died, the change was slow... but noticeable. Your father grew distant from you... and only you... You didn't know why. Your father's smiles would always leave when he saw you. His laughter would always die when he heard your voice, the love in his eyes slowly turning to hate for you. You didn't understand, you couldn't wrap your brain around it. Your other siblings didn't get that treatment, but you knew he wasn't happy with them, simply because they didn't care to accept god. You watched your older siblings all slowly move out as you grew up, your younger brother even started running away, not wanting to be apart of the church... You were his only obedient child, the one he hated.
He wouldn't speak to you, he wouldn't acknowledge you. You did everything to obtain his love and attention. You'd cook and clean, you'd buy groceries once you were old enough, you studied hard to keep good grades, you even got accepted into a promising collage, but nothing made him notice, love or even accept you. You wanted to abandon him too... Pull back and reject him... But you promised your mother... At your wits end, you did the only thing you knew how to do best, you went to the church and you prayed. When your father caught you praying in his church one day, he smiled at you for the first time in years, and he prayed with you... After that, you committed yourself to god, for your father's love. You became a nun, abandoning everything... This was the only way you knew how to honor your mother's last wishes.
Jack could kind of resonate with this in a way. A father's acceptance, keeping a promise to your mother... Turning to god for answers and salvation... He understood it all... and for once, he had someone in his small circle who he could relate with on a deeper level, an equal of sorts. For the next 2 years, your relationship slowly blossomed from friends to lovers. It was strange, it was gentle, it was slow, it was real, and it was love. It was something he never thought could happen for him, but he's grown to appreciate it.
When you and Jack first started dating, it was comfortable, it was familiar yet it was still fragile... You've both been friends for a good year and a half, and for a random shared kiss to happened behind the church it still felt unreal, but it wasn't. It almost felt like your friendship was ruined, but you both knew it wasn't... Because even if you both did break up, Jack wouldn't abandon you, and you wouldn't do that to Jack either. He promised, that if you both did break up, then you'd both would go back to being friends.
But now, its officially been 2 years, and you were both deep into your relationship. Your father was slowly becoming old, and he was going to step down in the next few years, you couldn't step up and become the next pastor as it was a man's position, but once you and Jack made your relationship known to your father, and he approved of it. He wanted Jack to step up. Jack is a spiritual man, but he could never see himself being a pastor... His life wouldn't agree to such a demanding job, but he felt torn. He didn't want to leave you for the life he lives, but he didn't want to tear you away from the only thing you've ever known.
But, all of his prayers were answered, when you admitted that you didn't want anything to do with the church once your father has passed. It took your life and your freedom, it was all you've known, not by choice, not by force, but for obligation... Your father... and once he dies. your obligation was gone. So Jack took this information and he ran with it. He's a patient man, and his patient paid off, when your father finally passed with a smile on his face. He had already given Jack his blessings of owning the church and marrying you, but Jack wasn't doing that first part.
Your father was buried next to your mother, and you both paid your respect to him, your mother, and the church, by having one last prayer in the church together. Once that was done, you passed the church down to your uncle, and he gladly took it off your hands, what he did with it, you didn't know and you honestly didn't care. You were free, and you were moving to Japan with Jack. You were looking forward to your new life with Jack, and you were ready for it.
Looking out the window of the plane, you stared at the airport building, reading the name of your home town on the building, a sad yet fulfilled look on your face, as you thought over your entire life. You felt sad, leaving it all behind, but you felt like you did good.
Jack's hand gently grabbed yours, catching your attention. You looked up at him, a happy smile on your face, your eyes full of love. "You know... A new country, a new home, and whole new life... It is pretty scary... It's a big change, do you think you can handle it, little nun?" He asked, his voice full of understanding. You looked off from him, slowly looking out the plane window once more, watching as it began to roll off. A look of contentment crossed your face and your smile softened to a gentle one. "I think I can handle it." You said confidently, and with Jack by your side, you were more confident than ever.
