I love Jack being the one to break the mirror at the end. Like the one who is seen being the most obsessed with his appearance and beauty being the one to break a bigger version of the thing he used as a weapon the first time he and snow/red shoes meet is so cool.

It’s occurred to me many people don’t know who the characters in red shoes and the seven dwarfs are based on in fairytales.

Let’s start with the obvious:

Snow White is Snow White from Snow White and the 7 dwarfs

Regina is the evil queen from Snow White and the 7 dwarfs

King white is king white from Snow White and the 7 dwarfs

Now to the f7:

Merlin is based on Merlin from Arthurian legends

Arthur is based on King Arthur from Arthurian legends

Jack is based off Jack from Jack and the beanstalk

Hans is Hansel from Hansel and Gretel

Pino, Noki, and Kio are Pinocchio from Pinocchio (this one really killed me because I couldn’t get it, I got the others but this one I had to look up lol).

I couldn’t find if prince average is based on anyone, I think he’s just the average prince in fairytale stories, no extraordinary characteristics, no first name, just nothing outside of his overall unappealing personality and vainness.

Edit/ @astrolionking reblogged and pointed out Prince Average is based on the huntsman whose ordered by the evil queen to kill/capture snow/red.

Do you think Jack the Dwarf turns into a human when he uses the Invisibility Cloak?

I think logically that would make sense, but it doesn’t seem like it works that way in cannon.

Look how low the spear is, I don’t think If he was his normal height it’d be that low.

And here we can see the outline of him. I know she’s looking at him here, but this was the closest screenshot I could get. If you watch the scene, you can see a little before this there’s a bit of fuzz indicating his outline.

We can also see here that the spear is too low for Jack to be his full height.

I think the animators or whoever just made a mistake. These are the only scenes where he’s wearing his cloak fully.

I decided to look at who’s bed I think belongs to who in red shoes and the seven dwarfs and why I think so.

Starting with Merlin and Hans:

I think the bed red shoes is in is Merlin’s. If you look above his bed you can see a poster thing with magic symbols (he’s the only one to do magic). You can also see a bunch of books (he’s also the only one we see look at books, not including Hans who uses cookbooks, so I just assumed.

I think the other bed in the picture is Hans’. You can see some random bowls which follows his cooking thing. I couldn’t decide between Hans or Arthur for who this bed belongs to but when I looked at the next one I decided Hans fit this one.

Onto Arthur’s:

You can see the swords above his bed which really sold it for me because he’s the only one who really uses swords or weapons. His little desk area is super bland so there’s nothing there for me to really say anything meaning.

Now on to Piko, Noki, and Kio:

The three bunk beds are theirs simply because they’re triplets and the media has a weird thing that twins/ triplets can’t have a personality of their own. That and they’re super close and they have limited space.

Now onto my favorite, Jack

He’s really extra and because of that his was the first one I knew. What cemented it for me was his cloak is in a safe above his bed (as seen in the first picture). There’s nothing decorative above his bed as the others have. But he’s nothing like the others decor wise. He has a completely different bed frame, his pillow is a bolster pillow (a pillow meant to help with posture or a decorative pillow), and his bedding is much more detailed. With a purple comforter that has a blue underside and decorative golden designs along the border and a purple sheet, it’s completely unrecognizable to everyone else’s. I would also guess the mirror is his.

He places a much higher emphasis on taking care of his physical appearance, doing much more than everyone else to maintain it. We see him frequently doing face masks and talking about the importance of skin hydration. I think it’s safe to say with this information that his bedding is silk, given the benefits to the skin and hair.

One of my favorite things in Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarves is Jack is the only one with different bedding on his bed.

All the others have this plain blue blanket and a pillow then here’s Jack with purple and gold with intricate designs on the edges.

Just plain and simple, then there’s Jack:

It’s so extra. It’s even a different bed frame. Like it’s not even a standard pillow. I love Jack so much he’s my favorite.

Also purple’s considered the color of royalty because in historic Europe there was a rule only royalty could wear purple. This was because it was really expensive to make, so even if someone could afford to purchase it they couldn’t.

I also started my Jack and his love interests fanfic. Since she isn’t inspired off of someone in fairytales, at least I don’t think she is, I named her Matilde. I’m not sure who I’m gonna do next but I know l’m gonna do Arthur and little red riding hood, Hans and sleeping beauty, and prince average.

Curses in Red Shoes and The Seven Dwarfs

Curses in this movie are mainly used as a lesson. The fairy princess curses the f7 for assuming her morality based on her appearance. The curse turns them into green dwarfs whenever someone looks at them and the only way to break it is to be kissed by the prettiest girl in the world. Snow whites curse is her shoes.

1st we’ll look at the f7 curse:

Their entire curses purpose is to teach them to not judge books by its cover. In this movie pre lesson characters equate morality with beauty and immorality with unattractiveness. Since they saw the fairy princess and assumed she was a witch because she was “ugly” she cursed them to be “ugly”. They do this with red shoes too, when she’s in their house (she broke in) they let their guard down because she was the societal standard of beauty. And also Arthur says she’s too beautiful to be a criminal. Merlin and the others, to break their curse, need to learn appearance does not tell who they are, of course appearance can give hints but it cannot tell who a person is.

What Snow White needs to learn is to not change her appearance for others approval. Now snow is extremely happy with herself and loves herself pre shoes. When she first takes the shoes off she has a little bit of a struggle but still manages to do so, saying something along the lines of ‘this is me’ with a sigh of relief. And she could take her shoes off easily in the alley way but when she’s talking with Merlin in the barn she cannot take them off. But before her attempt, she and Merlin had a conversation about how he views other people mostly on appearance, they didn’t go deep but she internalized it. So when she tried to take off the shoes, she knew he’d think differently about her and in that moment she wanted nothing more to be attractive to him. She can take of the shoes when there’s something more important than beauty. She takes off her shoes next when she’s pulling Merlin out of the water. She values his life more than beauty. Then she puts them back on when Merlin leaves, she thinks he left her for good and is surprised when he comes back and asks her to take them off, she can’t. She wants nothing more in that moment than to be beautiful to him. She ultimately ends up sacrificing herself for him and in the end he calls her the most beautiful woman in the world and his eyes are open now. She never wears the shoes again(to my knowledge) and doesn’t have to change her appearance to be loved and adored.

Almost everyone learns something or is set up to learn something. Snow doesn’t have to change her appearance and can find love looking as she does and Merlin learns people are more than they look.

Edit/ Merlin didn’t break his curse when he and snow kissed the first time because he didn’t learn anything, it was all about appearances. His and the fact he didn’t know what snow looked like.

If you look at when the f7 are gathered around discussing who’s to make red shoes fall for them, you can see a round table they’re sitting around. This is in reference to Arthurian legend where King Arthur and the knights of the round table are to be seen as equals of each other with no “head” of the table. Both Arthur and Merlin are based on Arthurian legend characters so I’ve no doubt it was intentional.
