i think the funniest thing i’ve done to my players as a DM is have them experience sentient bushes. Not fight them, not interact, just... experience bushes yelling at them. Ratting them out to the big bad. Screaming that they have a family as one of my players made ointment out of it.

If you ever have the chance. Please... I beg of you... Sentient plants are perfect.
