My Jack Frost staff is finally done!

I am so happy right now! I did it! :D A dear friend of mine helped me with ideas, as we together built and painted the staff, and topped it off with TONS of white and silver glitter. It’s dark, nearly black at the bottom, the mid part is covered in white “frost”, and the top is supposed to have this blue glow look to it. 

This one sparkles even more in real life too! We decided to take our own spin on Jack’s staff, rather than just painting it all in dark brown, wanting to highlight Jack’s immense power of the cold, ice and snow, seeing it immediately by one look at the staff. I think it turned out beautiful. <3

Now I just need to fix a few details on the rest of my Jack cosplay, and I will be ready to transform into the Guardian of Fun! I am super excited to be attending Närcon Sommar this year, dressing up as Jack. Cosplaying Jack Frost has long time been a dream of mine, and now it’s finally coming true. And it is my very first cosplay too! It’ll be amazing!

Hey there darling! I'm quite the fan of your cosplays! The other day a progress photo of your Jack Frost staff caught my eye, and I was wondering if you would perhaps elaborate on how you made that GORGEOUS texture? If you don't want to take the time to do so that's fine! Thank you either way

This set of progress photos (not sure if they were the ones you saw or not) shows the texture before painting.  All the texture is paper mache, newspaper on the crook, then tissue paper on the bottom (Though I did put tissue paper over the newspaper on the crook too, for the color, as I used brown tissue paper)

It looks amazing up close I ought to take some closeups of the finished one…I will post some later for sure!

I took strips of the paper and crinkled them a bit lengthwise (like folding it a little like pleats, but I wasn’t accurate about it or anything) then swirled them onto the stick trying to replicate the swirled texture of Jack’s staff.

Then when painting, I used sponges to give the texture to the paint (which was mostly just white and shimmer white paints).
