I can’t believe Jackal Steve has promoted so hard from a jackal joke scenario that he has actually ingrained himself into Sutek/Idir lore. Incredible.

BTW, I kinda get why Idir would choose to employ Sutek, but why Steve? 🤔

Haha I tell ya there is power in a name! I already planned on developing some of the Jackals as characters, but Jackal Steve really came out of nowhere and is now firmly a supporting character!

(This reminds me that I need to make an update post on here letting people know what's on the patreon.)

And as for why Idir wanted to recruit Steve as well, it's because both Sutek and Steve are at a good age for recruitment. They're young enough to be impressionable, learn a wide range of new skills, and they have no guardians, meaning that Idir has almost complete control over them and their loyalties. Plus it's also a skill thing. Until Idir mentioned it, no one noticed that Steve completely removed himself from the conflict. That's an innate talent for stealth right there!

When y'all started chasing him, did y'all think it was going to be a trap, or did y'all think the Talons were just going to jump him?

Sutek's romance really is the hardest for me to write. Because not only do I have to figure out a way for Sutek and the MC to meet without it immediately resulting in two chalk outlines, I also have to do it without making both Sutek and the MC seem like thirsty idiots.

Enemies to Lovers is a nightmare, whose idea was this?

I hope our relationship with Jackal Steve has the potential of becoming 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬-𝐭𝐨-𝐮𝐧𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐦𝐚𝐧 👍

Here’s some of my terrible character ideas for Steve:

•Any time the MC and Sutek are forced near each other and Steve is there he just does that awkward Jim Halpert camera stare at the direction of where the player is.

•Steve somehow accidentally accelerates the romance timetables by 5% just by existing.

•Probably only has a very very vague whiff of the romance and does every wingman-based action unintentionally.

•Is whatever the hell the Jackals can allow for comedic relief(?)

•Other than being affiliated with the Jackals, outside of work he’s just Some Normal Guy.

•He eats oranges and other citruses with the peels on because he’s a Jackal, and I needed to think of one ill-favored character trait for members of our rival guild 😠

How dare you say these are terrible! These are awesome and I love each one. I've already written part of his introduction, but that won't be until the update after this one.

Also, did you say that he eats citrus with the peel on? That is so upsetting, I love it.

Gerger is currently like the Steve of the Talons-verse. The side character that has ascended to even further beyond. I bet he’d chew the life out of Steve if they ever met though lmao

One was just supposed to serve a short narrative purpose, the other was quite literally a joke and now I have planned out both of their characters arcs.

You know we have to have them meet!

I wouldn't count Steve out anon! I mean he's stayed alive this long, so that's got to count for something, right? (Real talk in a straight up fight, Gerger would dismantle him 😂)

Sefu’s my home boy so of course I’m biased towards my homies but like c’mon there’s no way Steve’s survived this long with that mouth of his without some tricks up his sleeves lmao

Steve definitely isn't completely incompetent and he has amazing stamina and resilience. He may bruise easily but he can also eat a punch like it's nothing and keep going.

If it was a close range fight with limited places to move, Sefu is the clear winner. But Steve is very, very, fast and that can be a dangerous thing.

Like I said, Steve is fast so he would take the early lead, but then he'd start talking smack and monologuing.

Sefu love to trash talk, but he also knows when to turn it off so he would be busy concentrating.

Then they would be almost neck and neck.

It's a toss up, but I see Sefu winning, just because I can't se how this ends without Steve knocking his cup stack over.

I thought it was gonna be a trap. Few things really; not just the dagger. To chase somebody who just deliberately tried to rile everybody up before running? Nah, it's a trap. Not complaining! Just answering honestly. I'm enjoying the story. If you're actually worried about it you could just give Steve a bit of knowledge or an object he shouldn't have that raises the stakes of trying to catch him before he reaches his destination.

Don't worry, it wasn't really supposed to be a shock that it was a trap! Plus I don't mind when y'all guess stuff. That's part of the fun of reading!

I also love the way you pinpointed his strategy. He picked just the right person to antagonize.

I do think in revisions that I will add an option for players to increase their perception stat by trying to warn Sefu.
