"finders keepers" is a student film from depaul university. it was also a treasure buried in the sands of my "watch later" playlist. anyways, i'm glad i finally watched this!

i really like the character designs. according to this behind-the-scenes video, arideo had to really simplify the designs from their illustration class, which i totally get. in fact, i'm actually doing it right now!

but one of my biggest fears is that i'll end up losing both the characters' identities and my own artistic identity in the process. looking at arideo's initial character designs and comparing them to the ones in the short, i think they did a great job at finding ways to simplify the designs while still preserving who the characters were meant to be.

not to mention...i really like how the muzzles are rendered. animal muzzles are something i struggle to draw for some reason—it's really just a cylinder—so i love the way arideo approached them in their short.

so...that's about it from me. go give this gem a gander!
