Animation studies
A few studies from years ago when i was in college for Digital Games, not that i learned much from that but i did catch a few things about art in general.
This is my character Fee, created as a character from a game idea i had in high school and that has no chance of ever happening but i used her to make these studies.
At the time i made these i didn't have a pc yet, so you can see they're all made in FlippaClip. The first one was copied from a Tinker Bell gif, and the fourth one was a rotoscope study from some stock video of a ballerina.
Now this last one was made with Photoshop, i finally had a pc and created these characters specifically for this water x fire exercise. Their names are Vanni, the water elemental, i called her a mermaid too, and Brann, the Fire elf.
And yes, i shipped from the moment i imagined them.
Just found out that IbisPaint has an animation feature and wanted to try it out
Never actually animated before, only some unfinished practice stuff, but here is a little messy bad quality GIF/animatic draft??? I tried. She is supposed to have a snowflake fall on her nose and then further down. Welp... Not sure whether I'm actually going to finish this
The ibis watermark is very ugly though, I was hoping it would be more idk elegantly placed and not so rough
man, adults swim elephant realy is something
the beginning is really interesting, what phrase really made me thing was the exchange from a new born being and then someone else calling them evil. As they escape their malvolent pursuer They ask their rescuer 1 possibly seemlingly easy question '' Am i evil?''
Their response is something interest that puts things in a perspective. ''Evil? no, you may be cruel, but you may also be kind. But with a bit of imagination you can be something entirely new'' This did made me ponder on some things.
To a being just born and sometimes in general, evil, good are more social and moral constructs we built to create a society with behaviors we wish others to have.
In isolation outside of the realm of society these concepts of evil and good hold little to no value, but the concept of cruelty and kindness persist even in the vaccumn of space, society and self.
These 2 are the essence of the good and evil, shells which we dress up and paint to teach and often suit our needs often as a way to justify our actions and feelings.
We can see proof of this from the animal kingdom, beings who we say did not eat from the fruit of good and evil and yet these beings we think we are superior from still display signs of kindness and cruelty.
Animals band together and fight together out of a sense of shared survival but they could also very much just flee and live the wounded by themselves, cold bleeding and alone.
And yet they don't, we see many such examples where the sick were wounded, fed and nurtured back to health. This is in no sense an act of self preservation as the acts which would help the most in this would be to eat all the food for themselves as often we never know when our last meal will be and we might need the strength from it.
This is an act of kindness that exists in the world, observable and untainted by our concepts of morality.
We made the world much more complicated with so many systems rules, directions and distractions that it gets really difficult to focus on the really important questions we long to answer to. Which takes us to to next few seconds into the show, with imagination, effort and often the right people helping us we can become something entirely new. We can oonly hope that this new entity will still be kind and maybe in some place far away, or hopefully a bit closer we can all be kinder together and find ways to make all of these problems go away for ones which will be used as stepping stones to find the answers we are looking for.
Yo guys it’s me Charlie
