When i was growing up, I remember this TV series I watched religiously, called ‘The Greatest American Hero’. It was about the accidental hero; the one who inherits extra-terrestrial powers, but was far from any Kryptonian we knew. Still this bumbling superhero gave kids like me, the inspiration to be someone great, even though we may be just an average human being.
As unforgettable as the show was, the theme song was equally unforgettable... Written by Mike Post and Stephen Geyer, who were TV theme gurus at that point in time, ‘Believe It or Not’, performed by Joey Scarbury was well-etched in my mind enough to want to do a cover version.
Musically, I love this tune since, instead of straight-up chords, uses a play of bass notes and chords, like in the 2nd line of the verses (D, G/D, A/D, D), and a strategic plant of the G#dim chord in the chorus. Unexpected but a magical flow to it.
Heard that Fox has bought the rights to it, hope they do a reboot, and a new version of this awesome song!
