John stares at his daughter. His daughter's named-what was her name again? Jadin, Jasmin, Jone? None of those sounds right. Her name starts with the letter J. June, maybe? No, that's not it-

"Jackie! I made breakfast."

Jackie! That's her name, Jackie

"Oki! See you later, Dad!"

John stares at his daughter as she runs to the meeting table

"John? Are you okay?"

He nods. He can't tell her that he forgot his own child's name

Here he is!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s him!!! The boy!!

Jackie Richards! Myrvins fiancé and the cities local hero!

And the final design! I am stating it so future me can’t do ANYTHING ABOUT IT

Parts I changed and why, starting from from the top-

Hair- so in his original design he had long brown hair that he put up in a ponytail. I changed it to ginger hair because I wanted to start the very beginning for this design. For my process this meant writing down words I would associate with Jackie and then additional words I would associate with those. This eventually lead to ginger hair! He’s also a fire magic dude so it felt Fun plus freckles for Myrvin to kiss and that’s very important

Jacket- this one was another case of word association. And also thinking about what would a trans Jackie whose transitioned and is very happy with who he is and his body wear? Originally I kept the hoodie for so long because of his old ego design and also how hoodies for trans people can help with dysphoria. But this Jackie is more confident in his body and doesn’t experience dysphoria as often as he used to when he was 18. So taking a page from my own gender exploration I traded in his hoodie for a flannel jacket!

The rest of Jackie’s civilian clothes- this one was more on his color palette. Originally it was a red and blue to show he’s passionate but also can be calm. For this one I went for more warmer tones and also earthy tones! So the browns represent Jackie’s dependability and safety. Someone you can rely on. I did brought back the converse shoes

His hero costume- it went from just Jackie in a hoodie, several versions of a modernized knight, and now a more hero suit! I went for a more hero suit approach to make it more clear that Jackie is a hero. This one has more reds, oranges, and yellows for the colors to show that he is a fire boy. Oh and like how Myrvin had his ace ring for that ace representation I wanted to add a design element that can show Jackie is trans without it directly spelling it out and making the design not make sense. I went with a detail right below where his chest muscles are to represent top surgery scars!

I also did some practice sketch trying to draw Jackie’s body type of he has muscles but he also has body fat. And you really only see his muscles when he flexes them.
