Jackieboyman X Reader: The Rose Series
Dark Pink Roses: Appreciation and Gratitude.
They weren’t a stalker, really they weren’t! It was just hard to give a gift to someone with a secret identity and no known address. So, [Y/N] took to the streets and the internet with one mission in mind, find Jackieboyman and thank him for saving their life.
It had almost been a full year since the incident, they couldn’t really remember what had been the cause of the fire, perhaps someone left the oven on? That wasn’t the point, the fire had been quick to catch into the rest of the apartment building and they soon regretted the choice to live up higher in the building for the views. Trapped in their room and their vision starting to fade, the last thing they remembered was a man in a red suit and green hair saying something to them and picking them up. After that, all they remember is waking up in a hospital room with their mother at their bed side…
“You’d think with all the media coverage the guy gets he’d be easy to find.” They grumbled, finding a site where people tried to track the hero down, some for questions they had, others to ask him out, and then there were the ones like them, that wanted to find him just to say thank you. They couldn’t help but smile at everything Jackieboyman had done for the city, from saving peoples lives to simply helping someone find a lost pet or walking people home when they didn’t feel safe.
It took them a full three months of tracking on the internet and walks at the known times when he’d patrol, but they finally figured out how they could catch him. There was a small park area that he seemed to visit at least once a day around the same time, it was the best chance they had. After [Y/N] told a few people about their quest to find and thank the hero, several people helped them and even sent letters to give him in their thanks as well. The day finally came and the last stop they had to make was at the florist to get the present they wanted to give him.
“Excuse me!” Jackieboyman’s attention snapped to his left as someone called over to him. They didn’t seem in danger, but they were holding something behind their back. As harmless as the person seemed he didn’t trust it, the hero squared his shoulders and waited for the person to approach him first. “I’m uh.. Sure you don’t remember me. But my name is [Y/N] and a year ago you saved me from an apartment fire-“ that made him relax, they were one of the people he’d saved, a smile quickly found it’s way to his face. “I’ve been meaning to thank you for it too…”
“That won’t be necessary. Seeing you still alive and well is enough for me.” He said sincerely, he didn’t really like accepting too many gifts, exceptions being letters and children’s drawings that would sometimes be handed to him, but this person was making a visible effort to hide something behind their back.
“But it’s… Not enough for me.” [Y/N] shook their head, they expected he would say something like that. “You see, when I woke up my mother started crying…” They looked down for a moment before taking a deep breath. “I don’t think, I’d ever seen her cry at all before that. She was just so relieved in that moment and I, I don’t want to even imagine how it would’ve been had you not been there to save me. That being said, I’m not here just to thank you for saving me, I came here to thank you on my mom’s behalf. And on the behalf of everyone else you’ve helped around here.” They said, pulling the small bundle of six dark pink roses from behind their back as well as the small folder that held all the notes they had gathered while trying to find him. “You’ve done so much good in the time that you’ve been here, I just wanted you to know that we don’t take you for granted.”
“I… Don’t know what to say…” He spoke, taking the gifts from [Y/N] with care, a small dusting of pink showed on his cheeks as he looked at the flowers. “You didn’t need to do this, really. Just knowing that I’m changing this place for the better is all I need.”
“You better not try to give those back to me.” They tried to sound threatening, crossing their arms. “Several people and I worked really hard to make sure that got to you… The dark pink roses symbolize gratitude and appreciation, we wanted to thank you Jackieboyman. You can go back to not accepting things after this, but please keep these. Having a whole city depend on you has to have it’s tolls, if you hang the flowers upside down then it’ll preserve them and if things ever feel too much then you can remember that we all love and appreciate you.”
Jackie looked back down at the flowers for a moment before looking at the folder that had “Thank You Notes for Jackieboyman” written on it with a few doodles of him on the cover. He wanted to claim that he never had times like that, he was the towns hero he wasn’t supposed to have down moments like that. He was always strong. He had to be…
“You’re only human after all. Or… At least I think you are. You’re not secretly Kryptonian or something are ya?” They asked, taking him from his thoughts, his laugh was loud enough to draw a few eyes.
“I can’t answer that sadly, strictly confidential.” He tried to gather himself and sound serious, but the giggles escaped, damn why couldn’t he keep a straight face? “Secret identity and all that.” He coughed into his elbow. “But thank you, [Y/N] you said right? I think I remember you, that apartment fire on the top floor yeah? Man, I was so scared when I found you, I thought I was too late. Don’t tell anyone I said that though.” He quickly added the last part.
“Your secret is safe with me Jackieboy.” They said, miming zipping their mouth shut.
After that there was an awkward silence, [Y/N] didn’t know what to say now, they’d already said everything they’d planned on, but he was still standing there! Shouldn’t he have flown off by now? Or something? Why were they both still there?
“I mean it though…Thank you.” He finally spoke again, stepping forward and bringing them into a strong hug. They stood stiff for a second, feeling a pop in their back, the sound of it causing the hero to quickly back away. “Oh my gosh! I’m so sorry! I didn’t hurt you, did I?! I could take you to a doctor or an emergency room, or would a chiropractor be better?” He began rambling, worried he’d hurt this nice person, the sound of them laughing stopped him.
“I’m fine. I’ve actually been meaning to pop my back for a while now, so you really just did me a huge favor. Saving me once again it would seem.” They said with a wink and once again a light pink dusted the hero’s cheeks. “Now, I’m sure there’s probably some criminal you need to stop, or some small child that’ll want your help with something. I won’t keep you any longer.” [Y/N] said, making a shooing motion with their hands.
“Oh, right…” He totally hadn’t forgotten that he was supposed to be patrolling, no, that would be a rooky mistake. “Thank you again, [Y/N]. I hope we run into each other again, under good circumstances of course.”
“Or course, I’ll see you later.” They said with a small wave as he flew off with gifts still in hand, he’d need to make a quick stop to put them somewhere safe.
Once he was out of sight [Y/N] reached back and touched where they had felt the pop in their back. “Oooowww…” Next time, they hoped if hugs were involved, he’d be a more careful.
