Happy 66th Birthday Steve Bartek !! [30th January, 1952]
Steve started out as a bassist in a High School band and got his first song-writing credits with Strawberry Alarm Clock at 14 years old, with the help of his neighbour George Bunnell. He was invited to audition for The Mystic Knights by former trumpet player Josh Gordon, replacing Stan Ayeroff as the guitarist.
Steve would remain with the band through their transition into a rock band and contribute to every Oingo Boingo recording until their breakup in ‘95. During this time, he also became Danny’s Orchestrator, working alongside him on hundreds of film and TV projects, often having to ‘rein in’ Danny’s habit of over-writing - “…Steve is very helpful in finding train-wrecks before we get to the scoring stage… he’ll be able to help me like ‘tell me where I fucked up by laying it on too dense’…”
Steve went on to form Doug & The Mystics alongside fellow Boingo members Avila, Sluggo, Vatos and ‘honorary’ member Doug Lacy; he also performs as part of jackiO alongside Avila, David Raven and Ira Ingber. He regularly performs with several of his former bandmates in Oingo Boingo Dance Party and continues as Danny’s Orchestrator.
