I don't wanna be rude but aren't Italians more olive skinned.

Thats not rude at all!! /gen. I love talking about my heritage and culture, so keep your questions coming!

Disclaimer: this is my views on how italians i know use this term, including myself. you may use it differently.

I'd say that the term olive skinned and dark skinned go somewhat hand in hand for Italian people. Olive skinned people tend to get more tan in the summer and get lighter in the winter, but aren't ever fully 'white'. Dark skinned people are dark skinned year round, sometimes getting darker in the summer.

Further south, like in the boot and Sicily, you'll find more dark skinned and olive skinned Italians! Its a good mix of both, but in sicily, theres more darker skinned Italians and mixed race people. (Since Sicily used to be a penal colony).

I know a lot of family that are in between 'olive skinned' and 'dark skinned'. They never stay dark enough to identify as dark skinned, but they're not 'white enough' to identify as white, so they use olive skinned.
