Toronzo Cannon Interview on Blues and News (It’s great!)
[Listen on BluesAndNews.com]
Find two hours and enjoy this interview with Toronzo Cannon on Blues and News with Brother Jacob. Originally broadcast March 5, 2017 on UIC Radio at UICRadio.org.
This may go down as one of my most funniest and entertaining shows. Today, I interviewed my good friend and Alligator Recording Artist, Toronzo Cannon. We talked about his upbringing, experience on the Blues Scene, musical influences and more. —Brother Jacob Schulz

Brother Jacob, "Blues From Below"
Damn! I was not expecting this. Brother Jacob's debut album, Blues From Below, is outstanding: instantly familiar and refreshingly youthful. Am I the only one who didn't have Brother Jacob on his radar? I got blindsided!
Buy Blues From Below here: Go to Brother Jacob's "Blues From Below" page to grab downloads or order CDs.
Here's what you get on this recording: Five Brother Jacob original compositions; two tunes from modern-era Chicago Blues divas Deitra Farr and Zora Young; and three covers of classic blues gems. But wait, that's not all! Check out the musicians on this disk:
Brother Jacob Schulz, lead vocals Toronzo Cannon, guitar Dave Forte, bass Chris Alexander, drums Neal O'Hara, piano/keyboard Deitra Farr, vocals Katherine Davis, vocals Matthew Skoller, harmonica
Solid Chicago sounds all around!
I missed the CD release party on October 12 at Lee's Unleaded Blues (big, big mistake on my part), but I did order a CD the Friday before at BrotherJacob.net. Blues From Below was in my mailbox today and this minute I'm in the middle of my third spin through it. I predict I'll hit four straight plays tonight.
Here's a little excerpt from Deitra Farr's liner notes to Blues From Below:
Blues From Beyond is Jacob's debut recording. All the songs on this cd have special meaning to Jacob. His first song "Key to the Highway" is here. He sings "Wang Dang Doodle" as a tribute to his idol the late great Queen of the Blues Koko Taylor. Giving his mother Erica Schulz much love and respect, he wrote "Mama Didn't Raise No Fool." Jacob considers Zora Young and yours truly his blues mentors, so he has recorded Zora's "Handy Man" and my "When They Really Love You." We knew Jacob could sing, but now we've learned he can also write. He sings his self-penned "That Clown (He stole my woman)," "Something's Brewing," "Walking Man Blues," and "Good Thing Baby," which he sings with Katherine Davis. Then we have the "Sue Medley," based on Bobby Rush's big hit recording. Jacob has been thrilling audiences for a while with his version of "Sue."
I think Koko Taylor would be proud.
WHERE TO BUY: Go to Brother Jacob's "Blues From Below" page to grab downloads or to order a CD or two.
