3040 East Grand Boulevard, located at the northeast corner of East Grand Boulevard and John R. was built in 1901 for Robert Lowe Robertson. Mr. Robertson was a successful stone contractor who worked on commissions such as the Hammond Building, Detroit's first skyscraper, and the Wayne County Building. The home was designed by the firm of George D. Mason & his former star pupil, Albert Kahn. Although the partnership was brief, it proved extremely fruitful. In addition to residences, Mason & Kahn were responsible for many notable Detroit landmarks, including The Palms Apartments on East Jefferson and Rivard, one of the first buildings in the United States to be constructed using reinforced concrete, as well as the Belle Isle Aquarium and Conservatory. During the city's music heyday in the '60s, the Robertson home was purchased by local musician Mike Hanks as the main offices for his label, D-Town Records. In more recent times, the property was the headquarters of New Center Realty, Inc. The Robertson home is a contributing property to the local Jam Handy/North End-East Grand Boulevard Historic District. #Detroit #NorthEndDetroit #JacobeanRevival #EnglishRenaissance #GeorgeDMason #AlbertKahn #MasonandKahn #EastGrandBoulevard #EastGrandBlvd #archi_ologie #oldhouselove #casasecasarios #houses_ofthe_world #beautifulhouseoldandnew #deserve2preserve #TheAmericanHome #houseportrait #BrickStory #RawDetroit #PureMichigan #PureMittigan #MotorCityShooters #PureDetroit313 #DepictTheD #VisitDetroit #Michiganders #ThisPlaceMatters #ThisPlaceMattersDetroit #MichiganPlacesMatter #SavingPlaces #GalaxyS10 #withGalaxy (at North End, Detroit) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxc56bhg5cu/?igshid=6pcr74aec49s
